Meteor City Trading Post is one of the many abandoned trading posts along I-40. Like the others, it had its heyday in the years before Route 66 was replaced by the interstate freeway system.

Meteor City closed in 2012, and has gone downhill pretty rapidly since then. The main building, a geodesic dome, is filled with busted up display cases and trash.

There are a few buildings behind it and a couple of trailer homes. All of them have been badly weathered and vandalized. I was pretty surprised to learn the place had only been abandoned for 2 years at the time of my visit.

If you're interested in visiting this place, I recommend doing it soon before it gets in any worse shape than it already is.

Sad. I visited twice, once in '02 and once in '12. There's a few pix from when it was open on Roadside America.
