I never knew him, but feel like I did.
Reading Access All Areas and Infiltration over these past two years has changed the way I look at the world, for the better.
Here's an article I wrote for broken pencil magazine about it.
"Access All Areas and Infiltration were a revelation for me, not only for Ninjalicious’s well-crafted prose, his enthusiasm, or his humor, but the sheer joyous innocence that he exudes."
Another thing that inspires me, and seems almost unique to him: His readiness to share his discoveries, and his love of exploration, with everyone.

I'm glad that I was able to meet him a few times. He was indeed a very warm, positive individual who came off as very easy to get to know. He brought a lot to many people.

I never met Ninj, but I have met, explored and befriended people who were friends with him and they are really great people, that speaks to the caliber of his character. People tend to gravitate to people like themselves.
I see the respect that the people who were friends with him have for him even unto this day, that is saying a lot. His legacy is clear with the people that still follow the exploring tenants he established; they make sense and promote respect. They promote respect for the places we explore, the history, and the people we explore with.
I never met him, but I have a lot of respect for him.
I hope the his explorations in his new existence are as fun as in his old life.

I don't know much about him but I've pretty much heard he was a great guy all around. Access All Areas is also an excellent book. I'm gonna have to buy another copy because I lost mine somewhere

Oh my god Av... I can't believe more then 10 years has passed. Thank you so much for the reminder. Jeff was such a great guy and always made me feel welcome in his company. His morals were so high that I found it difficult to ever tell him about various entry methods that were questionable. In the end, I just had to be honest with him, he had that type of personality.. you could not withhold details LOL.
He was not very quick to judge, he would state his disapproval and often suggest better methods / approaches.
The last time I met with Jeff, it was the scavenger hunt at UofT that involved a rooftop soundproof room.. that was pretty cool.
You and I met up due to Jeff's influence and web presence!

Ninjalicious was before my time, as I was only 9 in 2005. However I have been reading about everyone's stories with him since I joined this forum around 4 months ago, and it is amazing how many people he touched within the UE community. Everything I have read about him has inspired me to go out and purchase a copy of access all areas. After reading some of it so far it is clear to me the type of person he was, and it saddens me that I never got to meet him. I know I don't feel the pain of some of you who knew him well, but I think it's important to share that he has inspired me from the grave, and hopefully many other like me. His outlook on everything was just so beautiful, and stunning that he was so consistent about it.

Jeff died too young! I will never forget him.

The stories inside Infiltration were an inspiration to me. There were very few photographs back then, so reading well-crafted details of an exploration conjured great wonder and interest. Ninjalicous affected me and I only wish I had gotten to meet him.

Like many on here, I was doing urban exploration before I knew there was a name for it. I heard the This American Life episode and learned the name and that there was a community of people doing it!

It's funny, his was one of the first sites I ran into when I got into the whole exploring thing, and I even brought it up during one of the TO group meets a couple months back.
Every building and site has a story, and they are often of mistakes. Learn from them before they are gone forever. |

I remember one night bringing Ninj, Av, and nightbird to my former workplace (CFRB Radio). We were hanging out in one of the secondary studios and decided to pretend to do a radio show. Nightbird luckily took some photos (one of the few showing his face - tho I edited Av's out for this post), while I recorded this amazing little back and forth between Ninj and Av. I believe the date was January 20, 2005.

Both Ninj and Av did make reference to what the hobby would be like 10 years down the road. I haven't really been paying much attention to the hobby lately, however it would be interesting to hear if things have played out the way Ninj had hoped. It is also interesting that they talked about how this hobby has brought people together, and that I ended up marrying nightbird, whom I met on uer. So yes... very true!

I know I'm late to the party, Av, but thanks for posting this thread. I only met and interacted with Ninj a few times, and I was struck by what a decent, down-to-earth, genuine guy he was. What a loss.
