Do you explore alone?

I've done some ue before and have always been going alone, but recently moved to Atlanta.. Which I found to be a way more "scary" city then where I'm from. I don't know any fellow uer here so just wondering if you guys explore alone? How do I find a local ue group?

Although this question gets asked a lot, I get the feeling most explorers do go in groups. As for myself I've gone to the vast majority of my locations (100+) alone. The only time I've gone with friends is when I'm showing off the hobby.

If you really want to know how many people do/don't go alone you could attach a poll (button at the bottom) to the thread because hardly anyone uses that feature.

I do. But if you are new to the area try to network with fellow explorers. Plenty in ATL. If something doesn't feel right leave.

I don't go alone, but I'm very careful about who I go with. I only go with someone(s) I can trust isn't going to do stupid shit that could end up risking safety.

Up until recently, I almost always explored alone. This includes a solo trip to Detroit which, admittedly, wasn't the smartest idea but nothing bad happened. A month or so ago, I introduced a friend to the hobby and he's wanted to come with me on every explore since. I have another friend who has explored with me on occasion but I don't get to see her too often as she lives a few hours away from me.

Mostly alone - never run into sketchy places here so that is no problem. But I have troubles finding other people local that are into the hobby.

I explore with Bvmblebee, always. We will sometimes go with others as well. I won't explore alone, I feel it is dangerous, and I would be too nervous/anxious to enjoy myself.

I met everyone I explore with in online UE communities. Instagram is another way to meet people who are local!

In 30+ years, its been 99% solo. From my perspective, its just simpler all around. Only have yourself to watch. Of course, I'm sort of a bastard, so that may explain it better.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Always with someone, but I don't like exploring in groups more than four as it just becomes a hassle. My ideal company is one other person who I trust isn't going to do anything idiotic, which also acts as an extra pair of eyes to watch my back if I get into difficulty, and vice-versa.

Plus when you explore with someone else it makes it a lot easier climbing over or through things as you have somebody you can pass your gear to in order to make it easier.

Im kinda in the same boat as cranky old bastard Jonsered here it is easier to go solo but some of my most enjoyable explorations were done with my good friends in DFW.

I used to explore solo exclusively. But I met a couple explorers that I trust fully and with whom I really get along. So I go exploring with either of them when we can make our schedules work. It has gotten to the point that I will sit on locations sometimes just to go exploring with them. It's nice to have a few people because it means you have eyes on more areas, thus more locations. You get to share your knowledge with them and they share their's with you. The only time I really explore alone now is when I'm roadtripping. Even then, I try to meet up with a local so I'm not just hitting the touristy stuff.

The couple of explorations I have made in the past, I have gone in alone. I'll be doing the same today. However, that is not to say I wouldn't pair up, and actually, I would much prefer to. More eyes and should help keep individuals at bay. More so that I don't really know anyone here to go with and I have a hectic schedule.

I know there's a decent group of explorers down in Atlanta, but as JeepDave said, if it doesn't feel right, leave.

Unfortunately I have to. I do not know anyone in my area into UE. It's a bit difficult because many of the empty buildings in my town are in really bad neighborhoods. I have to go during the day when the gangbangers and drug addicts are sleeping. Even during the day there are places that can be dangerous alone. I have a CCW license and I have opted to always carry up to this point, but I don't like the thought of being required to use deadly force while "technically" trespassing. I've considered leaving my sidearm in the vehicle and just carrying the small knife I always carry, but in my town that leaves you seriously under gunned. I typically carry a Sig semi-auto, but have considered switching to a small revolver so I can just leave (casings and all) should things go sideways.

I would much prefer to go in a group of 2-4 people just to mitigate any confrontations that might arise. So far, I've only had 1 serious confrontation. I'd like to think my size and aggressive attitude saved my bacon, but it was likely just dumb luck.

Depends where I'm going.

Most friends who would be willing to explore with me are not very experienced, and unwilling to go into places most people might consider "unsafe" (asbestos, potential bums, etc.), so in more dangerous places, I'm apt to go alone so I'm only responsible for myself. Obviously there are some serious cons to this such.

Most of mine are alone. I live in a small town anyway, and many of my explorations are in the surrounding areas. I have been with others in the past, and will in the future but it is only people I know and trust. I would be hesitant to go with someone I didn't know well just because I want to KNOW that who I am with will not be breaking things or stealing things. Other than that I am fine with going with others - it just does not happen very often.

I do most of my exploring alone, as I get around by scooter. Safety isn't as much of a concern and I'm pretty well always within shouting distance of someone else. I couldn't imagine exploring any place where I'd be worried about running into dangerous people or requiring a weapon.

I much prefer to explore with another person, but rarely more than that. I find that three's usually a crowd, and four+ just stresses me out at most locations, especially if there are strangers involved. As I'm usually super anxious about not getting caught, I'm fairly picky about who I explore with and have/had a solid core group of friends whom I trust completely. Unfortunately as we've all gotten older and branched out into other things it's become harder and harder to make our schedules align, which equals less exploring these days, which sucks.

Loathe as I am to admit it, I'm also just a bit of a wimp sometimes and get scared being in many places alone - mostly old houses and drains (lol, the ONE place you're least likely to encounter anyone). Of course I've done some of each solo over the years, but I'm never truly at ease. oddly enough the one thing I prefer to do solo is climbing cranes / exploring construction sites. When you know there's a risk of on-site security making patrols it's much easier to keep tabs on your own shit and be stealthy, not having to worry about someone else.

I'm 100% with you there! I've explored alone many times but I still really hate being in abandonments alone, especially when it's dark inside. It wigs me out! But on a crane or active site it doesn't bother me at all.
