I caught this photo of my son after his tball game walking with his cousin, I thought it turned out good but I'm open to constructive criticism, not negative hateful shit please, thanks.

Cute photo but not framed properly. Kinda hard to do on the move but if you have a camera that takes multiple photos every second its easier. The large black pole (?) On the right should not be there. Most of these issues can be solved with a photo editor.

I feel like I'm being ridiculously pretentious when I'm critiquing photos (I can't help myself - I went to and became corrupted by art school), so please, take what I have to say with a grain of salt.

Overall, it does indeed look good. I like the shadows, the little glow of light that outlines the two, and there's good headspace. The diagonal gaps in the sidewalk panels also do a good job of guiding the eye to and emphasizing what might be the interesting parts in the photo (The one goes down from the hat to that bag of Funyuns, and the more horizontal squares are right in line with the name on the back of his shirt)

In terms of visual weight, it's very left heavy, which basically means there's too much empty space on the right. The pole does offset that some, but had you been probably one step further back, I think the image would have felt a bit more balanced. Having that pole there in that right third also would achieve what's called "anchoring the foreground," which kind of tricks the eye and gives the image a bit more 3D depth. (The alternative would be to crop out the pole entirely, which is totally cool too - totally up to interpretation)

One of the things that bugs me the most, however, is how your son's foot is cut off on the bottom of the frame. Most, if not all, people I've spoken with on the issue say unless there's intent behind it, don't cut out any part of your subject. Give a little space at the bottom so that the frame captures all of him, and you're good.

All that being said, it's got great qualities, and I'd definitely say keep at it.
