Hey, has anyone been to Slave lake recently? I am traveling their, and I want to know if any abandoned buildings haunt the area.

Are you shitting me/us? how about go there find something on your own and report back instead of asking for handouts. Geez where is Jester when you need him? I thought he was the resident asshole but I forgot he retired so I guess its left up to me. You're from Lethbridge, you have like the largest train trestle in N.America, there's a start.

"Urban Exploration" may be a bit of a misnomer. Stalking, scuttling, and scaling seem to comprise only a fraction of the activity. This is the exciting part where pictures are taken as trophies and shared with the rest of the tribe. Definitely the climax of the experience. However, much like a sexual encounter, the good ones often require a bit of work first. Research! Recon! Random drives! These are the ways to find the spots you crave. As I mentioned to you in the other thread, Google Earth can be a great asset in these endeavors. Although you don't get to see any snazzy, artistic shots of someone pouring over an old mine map, or squinting out the car window at a building concealed in the trees, or reading the news article about whatever business going tits-up, these aspects of the hunt are just as rewarding as slipping through a discrete POE.

If my short time in this forum has been indicative, this is probably the most civil response you will receive when asking for locations.

Three of four posts asking for locations is behaviour that sets off alarm bells for most of us. Especially in Alberta where the police seem so much more vigilant to catch explorers. As well as a security concern it's also a matter of etiquette; few people around here are likely to give much help to someone who doesn't seem to offer anything at all in return.

That's interesting, never heard this before. If you have any more info or anecdotes on the topic I'd like to hear more.

I don't actually live there anymore, but I've heard enough things happening through here. When I first got into exploring a decade ago, some of my Edmonton friends were being investigated by an undercover detective. More recently, someone here planned a meetup and posted the location online, and when he got there (a drain entrance I think) there were five cop cars waiting. Things like that that set Edmonton apart from other parts of the world.

Oh wow I never expected the local police to care that much. I hope I'm not being monitored.

What do you mean? He set off an alarm in a drain, or more like you mean he set off a disagreement or something? And someone was harassing him through this site? You can PM me the details if they're private.

Also, that meetup I'm thinking of where the cops spoiled it, wasn't that you or Warcrimes who planned it or were involved?

I try to keep a low profile online just in case, a combination of being tracked and laziness is why I don't do write up's of my explores.

Personally I think police have more important things to look out for in Edmonton than some goofs with headlamps wandering around.

Well I just got back from slave lake. I have taken a drive around and there is nothing of interest that I could find. Save for a stray biking trail that I was on. Some distance into this trail by the lesser slave lake, The grass went from Untouched, to recently mowed. After a distance, it faded back to unkempt. I could not see anything from the trail, but there were large amounts of hills. I might have not looked hard enough, but it makes me wonder the significance of this spot. This concurs my rather small report, as I have found nothing else.

Well then... It has been a while since I was called an asshole. Mind you I don't get insulted often because I try to be nice to others. That aside, I have been checking around and snooping to find some nice locations. There is a historical site that is in china town that is entirely abandoned. I was unable to get in however, because I came across a weird combination of a cork and a nail.

No, he said it's up to himself to be the resident asshole. You, we don't know who you are. You've received a surprisingly civil set of responses for a new member asking for locations.

Oh, then thank you for correcting me. I apologize for taking offence. I never expected any of you to trust me whatsoever. After all, I am just a random person on the internet.
