Old planes, active runway, military base adjacent. One of my most challenging explores thus far, both physically and mentally. freeside told me where the planes were located and was an invaluable sounding board for figuring out the approach. Definitely couldn’t have done it without him. The first time I went, I drove for hours, walked through dark forests for miles, and turned back 500 feet from the planes because of possible activity in the window of a nearby building. Still learning whether to trust my gut because danger or just ignore twinges of paranoia. This is about as close as I got.
Slept in the car and went back the next morning for some pics. Here's the Munitions Storage Area.
Second trip.
Third trip with Eschaton.
Thanks for looking! A few more pics here.

Brava! Brava! I love a little adventure and exposure when I explore. Best to trust your gut when exploring. Frequently I need to remind myself that locations are not going anywhere and it is okay to turn back if it does not feel right. I used this advice within the last week while exploring. If the site is something like this, where you do not have to worry about it being sealed up, I am always cautious and willing to bail if necessary. If the site is hours and hours away and there is a potential that it will be sealed the next time I make it out there, I am willing to risk a little more. I'm still learning my gut and my limits. But I do enjoy pushing my own boundaries, as long as I am keeping my wits about me. I'm very jealous; I have never explored planes before. Good work!

Thanks for the cred. I'm just glad you made in and out with no hiccups. I'd hate to bring someone into something like this only to have them get caught. As I said before, this looks like some of the most challenging lighting conditions around. Can't use a flashlight, distant lights with no local illumination, active facility, yeah this is about as tough as it gets. Going on or near the full moon is about your only option to help offset this. In before the moon rises, out as fast as you can. You can now count yourself one of the few people who've done an active airport. It's not for the faint of heart. Did you sit in the pilots seat? Was there one left? -freeside

Old airlines are an interest of mine, so seeing some of these old names is fascinating.

Thanks so much everybody. It was definitely a rewarding explore and I was glad Eschaton could join me on the most recent trip (his pictures soon to come I hope). freeside - there was a pilot's seat, in the cockpit with the gauges. I had forgotten how often I used to daydream about flying, and when I sat there it was like being ten years old again.

Cool pix. I got two N numbers and ran them. Both expired in 2013, and were built in 1969...

Yes! Every time I look at your first photo I like it even more. But you nailed the composition on all of them (slightly jealous).
