Mill on the river (pic heavy)

It's been a few months since I explored this place, but I finally got around to editing and uploading photos so I can post about it. Those of you familiar with the location should know that probably 75% of the buildings have been demolished, and much of the property is now piles of rock. Fortunately there are several large buildings that remain to be explored. On to the good stuff...

I am unsure if this water tower is a used for public utilities or if it was for the mill, but the cell towers still appear to be active.

I had to get a tetanus shot after scratching myself on this fence...

We ended up backtracking from here when we saw movement past the rock piles.

...

Disconnected substation.

...

SULFURIC ACID

...

An active hydroelectric plant exists on the property.

...

These pits are several stories deep.

GARBAGE

This part of the building must be immediately next to the hydro plant, as the entire brick room was humming at 60 cycles.

I believe this was an eight second exposure.

...

CAUSTIC SODA

...

...

Other side of the hydro plant, viewed from upstairs.

The stairs in the five story building.

View from above

The setting sun.

"Confined space - Do not enter"

...

...

We returned on a later date to check out the largest remaining building...

Many sets of railroad tracks ran through this building.

This appears to be a lift bridge for forklift traffic.

For being the cheapest film available, fuji 400 isn't half bad.

Whoever last drove this left it on, running the battery dead.

...

I'm not certain, but these appear to be high voltage switching panels.

Red solo cups.

Control panel detail

I have no idea what this is.

Some derelict machinery

So many chairs!

Flash at full power, this room is pretty huge.

The battery in the stand-up forklift was still charged.

More machinery I cannot identify.

Something lurks...

...

Some type of impeller.

I removed this computer from it's box to find that it had never been used.

Work area

General Electric

Someone used to sit here every day.

...

The property is supposedly going to be redeveloped soon, so I'm not sure how much longer these buildings will remain... It's a shame as the older brick ones date back to the 1890s! Hope you enjoyed the album.

I suppose it's my techie side surging forth, but I'm honestly most interested in what was inside that PC you unboxed, at least as parts and hardware go. The "Computer is Personal Again" campaign for HP didn't start until 2006 so it's no older than that, but that's still an amazing find.

If I put something witty here, maybe someone will love me.

The sunset view and those pits were my favorite, any idea what the pits were used for?

The water tower was used by the factory itself. Looks like you've seen more of this place than i. I never bothered with the larger/newer buildings. Mostly because they were actively demoing it while i was there, in the historic parts. Haha.

I was also extremely curious when I saw it, so much so that I actually opened the case haha. My memory isn't great, but I do remember that the inside was immaculately clean (no dust at all in fans or the heatsink). Closed it up and put it back in it's box after that. I want to say it was an early Intel Core series CPU, so maybe 2008?

Thanks! I am not really sure, although the yellow I-beam appears to have been used to lower something heavy down into said pits.

There's still some earthmoving equipment parked outside the newer building, but most of it appears to be in a state of neglect and disrepair, like this pair of possibly doomed excavators (note the missing hydraulic cylinder)

They seem to be moving really slow on this place.
I haven't seen anything about losing funds or anything, though. I think they're just being slow. That's fine by me.

The one in Neenah is going to sit as is for a while, by the way. The contracted demo. company backed out, as the city didn't follow through with the agreed-upon terms. Too bad they didn't back out much sooner.. All that's left is a deathtrap at this point.

I actually just cruised past this place yesterday to find that they finished the job. The big building the second half of these pictures were taken in is completely razed, all that's left is what borders the river. Must have happened very recently as I know it was unchanged just a few weeks back.

Yeah, I had hoped to climb up inside that thing too...

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a durp?
