I'm sure there are be people on here who know each other already, but I'm sure there will be more who don't, so let's do the introduction thing.
My name is Cracked, and I'm a cata addict. I've had the addiction now for a number of years and have marked around 50 descents/nights under. I also have a slight addiction to carbide lamps and map making.
I'm Romainpp. I have lived in Paris for a long time but I have been ignoring the catacombs for most of it, until I discovered them last year by doing a lot of online research. Since then I have moved to SF, and temporarily moved back to Paris, where I now explore the catacombs every weekend. You can usually find me underground with a DSLR or a ghetto blaster. I also like to explore some quarries in the suburbs, as well as other underground structures like tech tunnels and bunkers.
I have never been to Paris but thank you to whomever added me to this group as the catacombs are on the top of my interest list. I am on the San Francisco Peninsula
I am BadPeter, and I have known about Catacombs for a while. Last year me and Banditt finally realized our dream of exploring the grand underworld of Paris. We met some great local people including La Cigale who further helped us learn some legendary folklore and showed more around. I hope to come back again and spend much more time in the Catas, and I am very jealous of those who get to actually live in Paris and go to Catacombs every weekend=)
My name is La Cigale and I found the catacombs sometime in 2013, and since then it has literally changed my life. I became quite obsessed quite quickly and during the first two years I averaged one decent a week. I've met some very interesting people and done some very interesting things. Some of my subterranean highlights would be... Spending christmas underground, complete with blinking christmas tree. A New Years party the following year with a French resistance theme. Helping to install the new Passe Muraille and documenting the account. Building a bottle cap mosaic inside a room where along with friends terraformed the room to have nice chairs, tables, a bar, a cinema, and beds. Attending Goonie fest and watching 500 people clammer for oxygen as they thrashed in the mosh to live heavy rock, exploring missile bunkers, hotels, mushroom farms, breweries, going under with my 65 year old father and exploring a small system with him, documenting a man who scuba dives the inundated galleries, creating and maintaining a number of maps that are not only practical, but also a snapshot of history, attending a photographic vernissage underground, stumbling into a rave complete with electricity and DJ's, lights and smoke, the list just goes on and on.
For me one of the most enjoyable aspects of the catacombs has been the wonderful people I have met and the friendships I have forged with others who adore this otherworldly place.
My name is Agamen, 24 years old, and I've been going in the Catacombs since abit less than 2 years now. But I've been trying to for 3 years before I finally found an entrance ! I'm now totally addicted to it. I like to go there for any reason, big parties, small time with friends, exploration, construction, it is always just an excuse to be there
Hello all! I'm Cowboydan from Minneapolis/st Paul over in the states. I am traveling in Europe all summer, so of course I had to check out the famous Parisian catacombs. Big thanks to Romain for showing me around and laughing at me while I tried to pronounce things in french.
You're tunnels here are something special, and I'm glad I got the chance to explore them. If any of you guys ever find yourself in the states, hit me up -- I would be happy to return the favor and show you some of our underground goodness
Posted by CowboyDan Big thanks to Romain for showing me around and laughing at me while I tried to pronounce things in french.
You're welcome, that was fun! I didn't laugh, I just gave away the necessary linguistic material so others can torture you by asking if you want to go dessous or dessus...
Hello, I'm Freak from St. Paul in the US (originally from Alaska). I've been to Paris a couple times and greatly enjoyed the catacombs, sewers, tech galleries, suburban quarries, etc! I'll be visiting again in July for a few days and planning to poke around some more. I know a few of the other members on this board, would love to meet more of you! I'm also happy to show people around when they visit the Twin Cities
Some of my pics from past trips (mixture of things, not just ktas):
My first cata trip was in summer 2010 (GRS). Went again in autumn 2011 (GRS). Most recent was January 2015 (GRS + 13th!). I made a few descents on each trip, and have been down alone a couple times. Sadly, I don't get to make it over to Europe very often. I'd love to go again.
I think most of my photos and videos are lost or private, but here's a clip that's not:
I also have some ancient unscanned catatracts lying around.
