If anyone is interested to see what the old train station in Oakland looks like, here are some photos from a visit last week. (I was with a group that had permission to be inside).

That's a beautiful location. It definitely deserves a restoration.

Great pics.

Beautiful! Are the people still parked within the boundaries, though? Last I went I got in trouble with a gang, and another time there were people farming on the property.

That place is incredibly beautiful! Was it easy to get permission?

I'd like to explore it, but it is quite a drive from where I live, so I'd want to make sure I'd be able to get a good look without being kicked out.

Flashyfashionfraud - Not sure about the parking thing that you saw but there is now a community garden in the grounds which seems pretty active. They keep the grounds locked up even when there are people working in the gardens.

Jimplicit - No, you can't just roll up. You need to have a group of people, organize a visit in advance and have someone meet you there to unlock. The group I was with also had to pay a fee to be allowed inside. I'm not sure of the name of the organization that manages the property currently.

The owners are finally trying to monetize the place, which makes sense:

I heard these ones were not great, but I did go to a terrific not-so-official event there in 2013.

Hard to get in these days otherwise, they even cut the ladder leading to the roof, which was one of the stops on my bachelor party...

So this place has a security guard who sits facing the street on a chair, wears a bright reflective jacket and drives a black prius.

If I may ask, how much was the fee you had to pay for your group to get in and how large was the group? If you feel more comfortable asking over PM..that works for me too

Yeah it could be cool to do a photo workshop-type event?

I think that's what sparklepyre has set up. Small group opportunity to see the space. I went with her last year and highly recommend it. Here are a couple of cell phone shots from my visit:

It seems like the architects in that era had a different appreciation for space. They weren't afraid to design a building with a large volume of open space, accentuated by architectural details on the walls, floors, and ceilings.

So beautiful!
