I love Adventure's story about getting locked into the Bank. It sounded pretty harrowing, but he'd naturally be better at telling the story than I would.

Haha i was just about to post the very story!

After finally gaining access to a large abandoned office building/bank, my brother, friend, and I set out to explore the first story. We headed for a solid metal door and went through. Upon opening the door, we saw directly in front of us another metal door, and to our left two double doors that led outside to the alcove from which we just entered the building (through another nearby door.)

So, with the intention of opening the door directly in front of us, we walked through and let the door shut behind us..... Big mistake.... The door latched behind us. No big deal right? 2 more doors! The one we intended on going through was also locked. The exterior doors? screwed shut with lock out plates, and we had no tools on our persons. I had set my lock picks down near the POE, along with the tools my brother had brought specifically for opening screwed doors. My friend immediately attacked the windows with the butt of his tactical knife, and it did NOTHING. These windows were break proof.

We were stuck in a concrete room with all metal doors, all locked.

As my brother and friend began to panic, I looked at the ceiling and saw drop tiles. Awesome. So with the intention of just climbing over the door, I had my friend boost me up. Unfortunately the walls continued up in all directions.... except one. The area above the exterior doors was open and you could climb along the electric line pipes to the ceiling above the alcove, where luckily there were some light fixtures that i could unscrew with my fingers.

So i took out the fixture, dropped down and went back around and released my trapped companions

after that we propped open EVERY door in that place

1.

Here is the ceiling i dropped out of outside. The door we came through is on the right side of the room in there.

Back when we had Woodland's psyche hospital here I'd been into pretty much every building multiple times, except one that had still been being used. Finally got a chance to get in and had to squeeze in through a small opening I could barely get in, so I went in, then got a door open for the others who were with me.

Explored the place, and then let the others out (I won't leave a place open if it wasn't that way when I arrived) and planned to go back out the way I came. I went down a set of stairs only to realize the door I needed to go through was locked, as was the one at the other end of the stairs. So I'm stuck in a stairwell with everyone else locked outside, since I was the only one able to fit in the only open way in. I found some scraps of useful items and Macgyvered the lock open after a few minutes, and was thankful I didn't need to call the Fire Dept to break me out of the abandoned psyche ward, as funny as it would have seemed to me.

Was in Manchester England years ago after EUROPEX, and got locked on the roof of our semi-classy hotel. We had propped the door behind and figured security came up and closed it without noticing us. Had to drunkenly body-slam another door into submission to get back in

Of course no one brought a camera to the roof, this picture may explain why: http://drainfreak....mages/P1140559.jpg

The college I went to had "Student Traps" in the steam tunnels, I've mentioned them before. Essentially they were short sections of tunnel with one-way doors from each direction, and an alarm to the utilities department. We'd heard of them and eventually found one, verified the one-way doors (with someone on the other side for backup!) and booked it after spotting the sensor. Another guy I knew actually got trapped in one.

In the Twin Cities we have an ongoing bet that the city will one day bulldoze a cave shut with people inside. We're pretty sure they don't know how extensive some of the caves are (especially since some termites have connected caves that used to be separate), and some of the tunnels/shafts/etc that explorers or hobos would go through are not OSHA approved for city crews to check beforehand.

I had an industrial freezer close on me at an abandoned meat packing plant. luckily, the door was just reeealy heavy and rusted so we got it open. My friend and I about shit an entire building's worth of bricks though! It was just like that Regular Show episode.

So all those PSA's about people dying in fridges weren't for nothing!

I did have a minor brick-shitting incident where I pulled a door closed and the handle I was pulling it closed with fell off in my hand as the door shut, luckily I was able to get out another way or else I'd still be there now.

I haven't, but one of my friends nearly did last year.

From what I remember, he was exploring some sort of workshop building that had a garage attached to it. This was his first visit to the place, and while climbing through his POE, never saw or heard anyone else around the place. So, he gets in through the window and starts to walk around for a bit while he waits on our friend to get there. She arrives, but says that as she was getting in, someone was watching her from afar, and backs out to get in her car and leave. Worried it was a security guard, she tells him to get away from the windows and wait it out for a bit.

Quite a bit of time passes. She was far enough away to be watching the person watching her, and is still talking on the phone to our friend. The man leaves eventually, but my friend still stays inside as there was a ton of neat things to look at apparently. Suddenly, the man comes back - this time with wood and a nail gun - and goes right to the POE, sealing it up completely. My friends freak the fuck out and don't know what to do. He contemplated just trying to communicate while boarding it up, but didn't want to be caught.

My friend keeps walking about, and begins to hear some sort of chatter. Through some very thin walls, he hears a television. It was playing some sort of dialogue-heavy show or movie, which my friend believes is used to scare people off. He manages to find some way to peak inside the room with the television, only to find it has full power and all sorts of construction supplies. No one was inside, and by now, the man who apparently owns the place was long gone as well. Through sheer luck, my friend managed to get out through a door and never looked back.

I had a similar incident recently. In fact, I think that's happened twice. The other time I had someone with me who luckily had something in his multi-tool which could turn it. And like AdventureDan, I've also had to remove suspended ceiling tiles to get up and over a door before.

I also remember an incident many years ago when, with two others, we were at a location in which the only feasible way in was to drop down an attic hatch in to a small sluice room - The plan being to open a fire exit door once inside. The drop was about 11ft. So one of us dropped down only to find that the door which had looked slightly ajar in torchlight was actually locked, and there was now no way of climbing back up. They were essentially trapped in this tiny room at 3am in the morning. The other two of us had to leave him while we stealthed it off the roof of this building, drove home to get some rope to construct a hasty rope ladder, then stealth it back on the semi-live site, onto the roof and into the attic to drop him this ladder to get back out.

Whoah!! poor guy lol.... Did he at least have a cell phone? I'd be pretty scared having to wait for my friends to leave for that long while i'm trapped down there lol.

I had a number such incidents:
1. There are a number of roofs of active sites I've been on where you can get locked out on the roof. In most cases I've been able to bypass the lock to get down, but it's scary for the first few minutes nonetheless!
2. I've also had cases in which the hatch out to a roof had a broken latch handle, so it could not be opened from the outside. Had to climb down from that one (luckily there was a rope already there the first time I encountered it - I now always check before closing the hatch).
3. Another involving elevator surfing I've described here: http://www.uer.ca/...page=12&pp#post235
4. I've had numerous occasions, usually in libraries, where I can get into a staircase, the door locks behind me, and then the only way out has an alarm attached to it. I usually have to just set off the alarm and run.
5. Not me and not UE related, but a good story to illustrate potential dangers of rail cars: http://www.nytimes...by-immigrants.html

My current girlfriend uses a wheelchair ... They explained the lift needed a key to access that floor, & the call button was switched off.

I had been confined to a wheelchair for a few months some time back (due to a medical condition only plausibly UE-related) and obviously didn't stop exploring. Now the fire codes are pretty good about making sure that there's an exit from places: but that usually involves steps. I entered the second floor of a building using the elevator - but when I wanted to leave, the damn thing didn't come! Probably caretaking had it on service mode. Luckily I had built up considerable arm strength, so I was able to bum my way down the stairs arms-only - the real trouble was hauling the damn chair down with me! It was a great ordeal taking half an hour, but I was finally able to get down and roll to freedom.

Crawled through a small passageway of pipes and muck to get into a hospital's basement once. Then after I tripped a motion detector less than 20 minutes after getting in, I found out all of the emergency doors were bolted shut and had keycard scanners next to every one. I was about this close to just smashing a window because the cops were already coming at that point, when I found what was probably the only door I hadn't tried with a panic bar propped outward by only a block of wood. Pulled the wood out, and left.

Not fun, especially with garbage all over your clothes, and not even a worthwhile place to explore. Totally struck out there.

Exploring a half active building, I was in an abandoned wing of the former hospital. Having explored the whole side of the building, we decided it was time to go.

Except trying to leave, we found our POE was locked, from the outside. Whatever, there's hundreds of doors. So we go down the hall to a fire stairs. I knew this door locked from the outside, so I put a block of wood to keep it from closing. We went down the stairs and found that the fire exit had an alarm on it, so we couldn't go through it.

Well, we tried at least 4 flights of fire stairs before we realized that we were pretty much trapped, unless we wanted to give our position away.

Shit.

We try another set of stairs, and find a door to the basement! Who knows, might even find the morgue! So we creep down the noisiest stairs ever, down into this boiler room. It was dark, and the hall lights were flickering, so I figured we were in the clear. So we make our way to the hallway, and I see a janitor pushing a cart, at the end of the hallway.

We sneak back into the darkness, and quietly argue what we're going to do. Just then, footsteps approaching. Another janitor walks by, pushing a cart stacked with boxes on it. Luckily she didn't see or hear us, but we knew that the basement wouldn't be our way out.

So, we go up again, all the way to the top floor. We wanted to see if we could get on to the roof, and sneak back in through a different roof access.

We found a roof access that we could get to, and climbed down into an elevator room, Aaaaaand the door was locked. We were locked inside the elevator room.

What the fuck.

So, We went back on the roof, climbed back into the roof access, found the fire stairs leading to the basement, and just walked out. Janitors saw us and told us to talk to them, but we didn't stop. We just kept walking until we found a stairwell leading to the active part of the building. We walked right outside and didn't stop until we were a block down the road.

I was skating some sweet banked ledges in an office park one night, oblivious to the fact that security had locked the gates on me.

I stood at the gates unsure what to do next, this was 20 years ago, so I didn't have a mobile phone to call for help. I yelled out for a bit but there was nobody around to hear.

Finally old mate at the security desk looked up from his dog-eared porno mag, spotted me on camera and strolled down to let me out. He sheepishly admitted he had no idea I was there. Fuck knows how, skateboarding is not a quiet activity.

Anyway, he led me through some underground utility areas and let me out through the security entrance. Good times!

I climbed 10 feet down the rotting 2×4 framing of the crew quarters to gain access to a Atlas F silo. The steel stair case was cut out.

If you get trapped there you are -fucked-
Cell phones don't work in an underground harden structure... and you can't dig through 8 foot reinforced epoxy concrete walls with yard thick closed missile blast doors.

I climbed down and back up very carefully... and of coarse no one knew I was there

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

One time me and 3 friends were on the second floor of an abandoned farm house. We went into a room and a couple minutes later the wind slammed the door shut. Not only did it scare the crap out of us, it also jammed the door so hard that we couldn't open. Thankfully, it was only the second floor, so myself and another guy climbed out through the window, went back inside and up the stairs and managed to open the door from the other side.

Just curious, what are MAMU IV and Seapex?
