Hi urbexers! I'm a fairly new member, so I'm not sure if this is kosher, but my friend and I are looking for some info on the Britannia Mine. We are planning a visit and hoping to avoid the official tour, so any information/hints/riddles that you lovely people might be willing to provide would be much appreciated. Any security we should worry about? Something we shouldn't miss? Anything you think might be helpful. No entrance points, obviously. Also, a guy who picked us up on the way hitch hiking down from Whistler recently mentioned something about a cabin just up on the ridge behind the mine. Anyone know anything about that? Does it exist? Oh, and if anyone wants to join, we love new friends, send me a message.

I went camping at mount sheer many years ago. This is the old town site above Britannia bay where the mining occurred. There is, or at least there was back then. minimal part of the mill still standing, some mechanical equipment. if you look at the right place, you will find the old swimming pool (which was heated back then with the water used to cool the compressor for the mine)the old baseball diamond. and you can also find the remains old houses if you know where to look. those are the one the Chinese immigrant were living in. Most houses were torn down long ago to keep hippies from moving in. also on the way up you'll see where the cable car used to be. My step dad and his best friend are born and raised up there.... i had good guides. to show me around. the cabin you talking about exist, its simply a very small back country cabin, it sees a decent amount of people going to it. here is a picture https://www.flickr...04@N03/6289232673/ as far as the mine building at the bottom, i will let you figure that one out.
It doesnt matter how you die. But only how you live. | |
There is quite a lot up behind Britannia if you know what to look for, however the gates are pretty permanently shut these days due to the liability of how many people were going up there trying to get into the mine and stripping out things like the gas pump at Mt. Sheer. You could bike or hike in, but AFAIK you'll get a fine if anyone catches you.

Trip report: We went up into the bush and saw a few things we weren't sure what they were, then we hopped a fence and stared into the mineshaft for about 5 minutes before wimping out and deciding to go have sex on top of the dump truck. Checked out the old warehouse across the street the next morning. Got some great pictures in the early-morning light that I think my friend wants to post later. We kinda fucked up the trip, but it was fun, haha. Thanks for the info, guys!

I explored the grounds a bit last fall; -the old bridge is awesome to walk along (albeit dangerous) -the 2 really close tunnels are short but fun, made a fire and hungout in one of them for a while. -the shaft on the left side of the large building has a fun little ... BZZZT ... has old machinery in it. -the ... BZZZZT ... You could still easily ... BZZZT ... and walk in. Please don't reveal POEs in the forum, thanks. -Ganesha
