Egg House

This weekend, I took a road trip with my family to the NASCAR race in Martinsville, Virginia. Between I-77 and Martinsville is a fun little road called US 58. This stretch of road is home to dozens of abandoned farmhouses and other structures. My family was nice enough to pull over at one of them so I could do a little exploring. So we stopped at what I will refer to as the Egg House because that is what I found there. It was set back from the road a ways so I had to work through a small field of brambles to get to it, getting a few scratches in the process. Up on the porch, I found that the front door was padlocked shut. So it was back into the field to try to find another way in, which I eventually did a few cuts and scratches later. The house is in bad shape, having already had one interior collapse and is on the verge of several more. I rarely go exploring at night, but my hand was forced since we got stuck in traffic after the race.

This house seems sadder than usual for some reason. Not sure why. Also, I keep parsing the bird's nest/detritus in the cabinet in #7 as a dead cat or possum or something. Guess I'm doomed to see imaginary animals in all your posts.

Also aaa those eggs why are they on the table how long have they been there I have so many questions that I probably don't want answers to.

And THAT PINK! What... why would you do your walls in that color? Why is it everywhere? It's like all the jank old farm houses wore the same bad dress to prom.

Anyway, I'm glad you got a chance to wade through some nasty bushes and snap some shots of this place. Nice job

I can see how it seems sad. With all the stuff hanging down and the house starting to collapse in on itself, it's like it's just given up. Not sure about the eggs, but with the debris collected in the unoccupied slots of the container.... Hopefully it'll still be standing next year. I kind of want to stop back and see if they're still there. You're right, old houses sure are a gold mine for outdated taste in decoration. At some point, somebody thought that was stylish... Or maybe it was a little kid begging their parents to let them paint their own room.
