You can tell this is very cutting edge from the internet dial-up sound bites peppered throughout the report. Lol I agree that it’s positive when publicity brings validation to explorers who feel like they’re alone (like the articles mentioned by SilentSearch & 2X). However, often when I see something that is sort of underground (and its members work hard to keep it that way) being used by some talking suit as click-bait or ratings material, I inwardly cringe. This made me cringe.

My thoughts exactly! *facepalm*

My thoughts on it, as some have said, is that there is some good and some bad to it. I don't personally care if people do stories like that except for one thing. It does tend to tighten access to some locations. Building owners & managers are likely to tighten places of access, if for no other reason than liability scare. Other than that, I couldn't care less. I don't think most people who watch the news really give a shit. Cops and property owners are the only ones who are likely to sit up and pay attention. And that, of course, is the bad side of this. The only real bad side to it that I see. I don't get my panties all in a wad over it anymore because all in all, the places that most of us explore, no one really gives a shit about anymore. That's why they are abandoned.

The thing that worried me about it is the owner guy who looks for rooftoppers. They're on to us!

In all honesty, at least in Dallas, the cops don't give two shits. My buddy is in the DPD, and unless it's a homeless squatter causing trouble, they don't care for the most part. The way he put it says it all: "If you're just takin' pictures, who gives a fuck? At least you aren't destroying shit and causing a ruckus."

I know some DFW people who have been arressted and I don't think the 'who gives a crap' is the opinion of all of the DPD. :p

I have a feeling you're right. But, and I don't know if this is good or bad, I heard through several of my buddies that chief Brown has the majority of DPD on "special." This means answering 911 calls only. No proper patrolling, just 911 only. So that could work in our favor, or not. Always a gamble, but I can try to keep everyone updated on any changes.

Scrappers and taggers do more harm to this hobby than those who seek publicity.

Instagram Explorer makes Chronicle front page. Not really much of an article, because there are no quotes or anything. Looks like they really just used a few of his pictures and a video from his Instagram and Youtube accounts. I've never actually met the guy, but I've spoken with him a bit. I'm glad he didn't do a comprehensive piece. This really seems like filler space for the webpage. http://www.chron.c...skyscr-6388481.php http://deadspin.co...eally-s-1718503083

Posted by SilentSearch If it hadn't been for an article in the Dallas Observer, I would never have known about Urban Exploring and not gotten to see lots of interesting places. News pieces can be good and bad.

If it hadn't been for that same article I would never have met the 2 guys that turned me on to UER.
|
I have to say the same as Silent and 2X. If I hadn't read the article done with Capt. Slow, I never would have known you guys existed. I would have been condemned to a lifetime of loner explorations. I still love my solo time, but I'm kind of attached to you guys now too.
