Henry's Knob!

I love this place, but I will say that the owner has asked people to go on the land unless they ask her. Please respect that, and if you want to go, just shoot me a messsage, and I'll hook ya up!.

Henry's Knob was a kyanite quarry until the 1970's when it shut down. The quarry roads are still there, and the clean-up from the shut down has made part of the mountain like a desert. (who would have thought there would be one in the Deep South?)

I see life in pictures, so why not take as many as you can, in as many places as you can?

A Nikon L310, basically a glorified point and shoot. I do little editing to my pictures either. Editing, in my opinion can sometimes hurt a picture.

Eh... I used to think like that but I've changed my opinion over the years. Take your last two photos for instance... a little bit of editing could easily remove that haze from them, making them just a bit clearer.

I think you're right about that, editing can be a blessing or a curse. I like the crisp look so often I shoot my photos in a bracket so I can do some merging later if I like the look but it's surprising how often I play with a photo for 10 minutes then go, I don't like that, trash it, then just color correct one of the shots.
But I think maybe so minor work in composition would be good. look into the rule of thirds and leading lines. Looks like it'd be a cool place for some landscape shot though!

Lovely spider. Do you know what type is it?

Also, what is #7? Apart from a nice shot.

I actually got 2 D series Nikons yesterday, so I hope to revisit the Knob soon and take some better ones

I'm not exactly sure of the spider. Saw one similar to it in Zambia, and it was poisonous. #7 is the bottom of the quarry of Henry's Knob. It closed in 70-72, so it's had 40 years to flood.

This is the crystal they mined, called kyanite:
