Found about this spot from a friend and took a drive out there. This was New York City's first municipal airport, later became a naval air station, and it is now a park. It was cold as hell and I had 3 layers on but that did not stop me from walking around. Looked like this place was locked up pretty well, and from what I heard (literally) some of the buildings may still have power. My nicer camera stopped working when I got there, just my luck.... Here are some Iphone photos.

Nice; I thought some of these were demo'd but now I know something's still left.

Only real "demo" was the gutting of the main hangers for a sports complex and an identical set of hangers that i have no idea what theyre going to do with. The rest of it is either locked up pretty well and heavily patrolled (d.h.s, nypd, coast guard, d.s.n.y & marines are there) or falling in on itself. I checked the place out when i was a teen. My friend(i didnt climb) said there was a skeleton on the catwalk in one of the hangers. There is also an impound yard in the back by the bay Its a great location but a shit ton of cops

Skeleton on a catwalk? Like a human one? And yeah, I did see all the authority there, defenitly a risky place but no one gave me trouble for walking around.

Looks like a damn cool place to explore! I even see some good POEs. It's a shame about all the police/security activity. Especially since most buildings are not connected, meaning a lot of time outside and exposed.

Little delayed with my response but yea, a human skeleton. When my friend & i ran through the place no one bothered us either but that was also pre 9-11 and after that they tightened up patrols I was there a while back but without a camera just driving around & a blacked out suv pulled me over after passing 1 of the buildings. Started asking me why i was there, checked my car, ran my info but since he had nothing to hold me on he had to let me go I dont know the validity but there was/is weapons storage somewhere underground. All the buildings i went in were gone through pretty well removing anything of value. The job corps campus was pretty much just sheetrock, carpet & fire extinguishers but still cool. I can still remember removing the lock on job corps' front door

I was caught in the gymnasium a few years ago by a couple of Gateway workers. I think I scared them more than they scared me, and I probably would have been able to just grab my stuff and hide if I wasn't in the middle of setting up a shot with my large format camera. They were nice enough though, and told me to get lost and consider myself lucky it was them that found me and not the NYPD. At least I got one decent picture out of it.

Tight shot, Mitch. Love it.
