In all seriousness, I do have a fear of heights but I find just pushing my way through it helps. Although I immensely dislike vertical ladders - in particular at the top where you have to dismount from them sideways onto a ledge.

Yes, absolutely.

There's some foreign word for when you have the urge to toss something (including yourself) over the edge of a high building or structure. I forget what it is called, but that pretty much sums up my fear of heights.

If it's someplace where there is a fence or a wall or something blocking the edge of the roof (or the structure), I'm fine. But if there's nothing there besides the edge of the structure, or if there's a boundary low enough to climb over, I get more than a bit antsy.

Don't get me wrong - it's not suicidal and, if all goes according to plan, I will never fall (heh) victim to those urges. But they're still a thing that happens.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

I think it's called the call of the void.

Personally, i'm not so mush scared of heights as i m scared of sketchy stairs and ceilings. I'm always worried something'll fall on my head and kill me.

I was afraid of heights for a long time. Then I got into rock climbing (this was before exploring). And it scared the crap out of me...until the first time I actually took a fall on belay. My fear of heights has never returned since that day, and these days, I spend a LOT of time up high!

So, I always tell my friends who are afraid of heights to try rock climbing!

I am terrified of heights, for now. I used to be terrified of small spaces too, until I starting going caving some years ago. The more you do anything, the less scary it is.

I'm ok with heights. I walked right out onto the rim of the Grand Canyon and looked down... well at least a couple feet from the very edge. I'm 6'5, so if it comes to having to balance on strange stuff with a sketchy entrance then I'm into really uncomfortable. Top of a building I have no issue going right out and leaning on the edge. You won't find me pulling stupid stunts like hanging off them though. It's not so much heights that worry me, it's the sudden stop at the bottom should I do something more than sightseeing. I don't glide well.

Sort of...I find I am afraid of heights, but only aboveground. Such as I won't like going near the edge of a roof, but I can sit on the edge of the Grand Canyon and dangle my feet over the side with almost no problem.

Which is weird to me, since the drop result is the same either way.

MAV, I feel that way myself. I think it's that I have faith in the ground, whereas I do not have as much faith in man-made objects. Sometimes I am scared of ladders and catwalks in an almost irrational way: they can be brand new, well constructed, and recently inspected, and I'm still nervous while on them, expecting them to plummet to the ground at any moment. At least the fear is not paralyzing, I can usually steel myself into doing whatever I need to do, but it still bothers me.

I do find that repeatedly climbing fire escapes and stuff like that has helped somewhat, but the fear is almost always still there.

heights scare me a lot, which is part of what makes reaching them so much fun. There's nothing like scaring the shit out of yourself from time to time.

I can do heights. I love the feeling of being so high up, it's real proper isolation.

I hate vertical ladders, especially those at some height off the ground. Sadly to get to a great height sometimes takes a lot of ladders.

Climbing to nearly the top of the HF6 blast furnace in Belgium was one of my favourite moments ever, I had wanted it for so long I never even thought about the height I had so much adrenaline going through me after spending nearly an hour trying to find a way past the razor wire fencing...

This Welsh coking plant is also pretty high and the only safe way to the top was a slightly crumbly concrete staircase on the outside of the main coking plant tower...

I can't do underground though....mines are a massive no-no for me!!

Recently went geocaching and climbed a tower in total darkness, first time in countryside, far away from city. My legs were shaking all the time. I started to felt comfortable only when friends who climbed down first, got inside car and switched car lights on.

I am afraid of heights to a certain degree. Like I would never do that crazy shit like the people free climbing thousand foot cranes. I am currently trying to overcome that fear though. I am getting more used to climbing vertical ladders and i want to attempt to climb an abandoned water tower at a location I know.

I pretty much have to get over this as I want to become a career firefighter. Can't be afraid of heights when you are climbing a ladder truck.

I personally am not afraid in general at climbing abandoned ladders that may be unsafe, or of something falling on me. I am more afraid of my own capabilities. Such as me slipping and falling off the ladder. I don't mind heights when somebody else is controlling the climb, I am afraid when it is up to me to keep from falling.

I got over my fear of hights by climbing sketchy stairs. I no longer have a fear of looking down. Now I have a fear of looking up. Thanks Terapr0. I think my fear of looking down just came back. Great ledge shot.
