Aaaaand...we pulled the wrong land title.

Try again later I guess.

If you have access, it might be worth it to try pulling a corporate name search on J P (Fastrac) Restaurant. It's similar to pulling a land title

We got a lead on a real estate guy who is holding on to the property.

Apparently, the power is being paid for by this real estate agent because the property is in a dispute with the city of Olds over the removal of the access ramps from Highway 2 southbound (compare Google Maps overhead view from 2003 and 2011 and you'll see what I mean).

Once this resolves, then apparently plans are to put the place up for sale.

But that still leaves questions unanswered.

Apparently, the ramps were removed in 2007, grinding business to a halt. Now, those ramps were used to access Doug's Esso, which closed down while the other place was in business (demolished in 1994; abandoned probably in 1989 or so).

So did Exxon Mobil ixnay the ramps to give the 2-27 the finger?

Update as of 29 July 2015.

The site has been mostly, but not totally, left alone. The concrete block barricades and aircraft cabling continue to guard an empty (?) perimeter, although the two signs advising contractors to call a certain 1-888 number have been somewhat abused.

The existing structure is fully overgrown in 2-3 foot tall vegetation in many spots (the pinnacle of summer), and there are a couple of things different. A catalytic convertor off of a motorcycle are in the south parking lot (where the gate is), as well as what appears to be motorcycle saddlebags.

The gas attendant booth was further broken into and the cash register machine was dragged out and smashed in the same area as the catalytic convertor was.

Curiously, there was the skinned remnants of industrial electrical cabling in a corner near where the POE was. What was curious about this is that there was nowhere on site where this cable was used, and as we discovered once we were inside, there was no signs of any wire being stripped from the interior...

The POE was further vandalised; the "storm" bars were nearly completely ripped out to make access/egress easier. The electricity remained on, and when we peered into the POE bedroom we were disturbed to see that a tagger had visited the location.

The microwave oven in the kitchen was set to the actual time, which made us ponder.

Five pictures:

A toilet was smashed that hadn't been previously, and a fire extinguisher had been used to further destroy the glass making up the main floor office walls...

Interestingly, my note advising people not to vandalise when exploring was left untouched where I hung it last fall, despite the graffetti at the entry way.

I wonder if the "780" refers to the Edmonton area. Anyone from that area recognize the "art"?

I'm surprised that it went as relatively untouched as it did for so long, tbh

It's in a high visibility spot that's impractical for anyone without a vehicle to access, so that's not much of a surprise.

Still, I give it 5 years before it collapses/burns/gets beamed up by the USS Enterprise.

So we took a trek out to this place today just to see if it is still standing...

It is, but it's been vandalised since our last foray. The gas attendant booth has had its glass smashed out completely, and a couple of the gas pumps have been savagely assaulted by idiots.

A few "tags" and words of not-so-wisdom spray painted on the gas pump islands, and a crated appeared in the pavement during the spring thaw.

Also, it appears that someone finally turned off the power to the location.

Yeah, I think this place is officially done. It'll either get torn down or it'll be burnt down by a careless squatter.

It's a shame. It's in a good place to draw in business.

does anyone know if this building still stands for farther exploration or is it deemed unsafe and unwise at this point?

I'm assuming it's still standing as their last excursion was just a month ago. I'm considering making the journey to check it out some weekend.

We last drove by a couple weeks ago, and the location still stood.

If you go, beware of potential squatters, and pay a bit of attention to the ground. As I said, the pavement has collapsed in a few locations...

I would surmise that this summer/fall would be the last chance to get a decent explore in.

Cannot be stressed enough. You're hooped for a quick exit if you run into any nutters while you're there
