Someone with a cutting torch should solve that problem once and for all. No reason to keep it, spring loaded or not.

aren't they held on with one bolt in the middle ? drag a big crescent wrench and/or pipe wrench in there and be done with it, i have a couple of the Ryobi cordless sawzalls, work GREAT on most smaller metals (like the fan supports)

Is this place still accessible?

I'm going to be in the area in 2 weeks, and plan to explore it.

Anyone want to join me?

I'm down, and have climbing equipment and rope.

On another note, how did you guys get out? Ascenders? Or is there an easier way?

We clawed our way out with our fingernails.

I would love to see the inside of one of these at some point.

How far down is the rappel?

Novemberico and I went to 1A a couple times in 2008-2009. We free-climbed down using the corrugated sides of the shaft and misc. piping and superstructure as handholds.

In retrospect that was a ridiculous plan and we're lucky neither of us fucking died. 20-year-old me was a lot more reckless.

But as scary as the climb was, it's squeezing though the blast valve that really stuck with me as totally sucking balls. I remember it being secured pretty well but dang that was a tight fit.

This is the only photo I can find from those trips-

2B is the one to go to if you want to see a Titan. There's more graffiti than 1A, but I don't remember the overall condition being a whole lot worse. And it's stupid easy to get into.

Jesus Christ dude. I climb and I wouldn't even consider climbing down there using the side and other shit poking out. Thats pretty badass.

Getting through that blast valve was shitty. But because there was several of us it wasn't bad because we were all helping each other, but it was still super nerve-wracking especially when coming out.

But if you don't climb up, how do you see the elevator motor mount that's at the top of the silo? And the hydraulic pistons for the 40 ton doors?
