Here are just some photos I took from over the summer. 1, 2 & 5 are heavily edited, the other two are not. I don't think that I 100% love any of the shots, but I wanted to get someone's opinion on them.

Most of this is nice. I would add more contrast on #1 to make it less flat and dark, roughly like this:
Note: This my first post in this section. I hope that editing somebody else's pictures is not frowned upon in photo critiques.

I agree with romainpp, but I think the blacks and shadows should be darkened even more. This photo could have a lot of contrast, since there is bright light from the window into a dark, shadowy hallway.

Thank you, I'll take that into consideration. I've been struggling with contrast and darkness in photographing these places. I like to be able to see everything so I've got a habit of making things too bright. I'll work on it!

Instead of editing the contrast on your computer, try to play with your camera settings. When you play with the contrast on your computer, you start loosing a bit of details and quality. And dont be afraid to leave dark shadows in your picture.

I heard that it was better to under expose rather than over expose. From my extremely limited experience, its better to have sections that are too dark before post process. Otherwise, the lighter portions can tend to be blown out.
Great shots though. I like number 3 and the offset position. It gives just enough movement space to the scene to make it look active.

That's correct, Azuro!
Digital cameras nowadays tend to store more information in the shadows than the highlights. You can use a histogram or the "highlights" playback function on the camera to see those black flashies on the photo, where the white is pure white. Keep those areas to only a few small pixels/areas, and the rest of your photo will be manageable in post.
I compared a 3 and 5-exposure HDR bracket with a single RAW edit on my Nikon D600 of a sunset, and there's no noticeable difference. All the time I would spend using a tripod, bracketing and merging to HDR later was for nought. See the image here:
Corgerz, my advice would be to use levels and angles. All of the images here are looking good! Good exploration of space and such, now try shooting up, down, high and low. Close and far. See what you can do.

That's a great comparison shot! I'm glad to see that I can get decent shots without HDR. I don't have the patience to setup a tripod and bracket every awesome composition. My short attention span can only handle so much...
