New Member? Introduce Yourself Here! v.Halifax2014

Earlier this evening I linked to this subforum on reddit's /r/Halifax. I wanted to create a thread to let any new members, regardless of how you got here, say hello, and speak their piece. Same goes for you lurkers lurking. UER can come across as not immediately inclusive, but we've got pretty good reason for that. Stick around, participate, build a bit a rapport here.

^ This.

To those of you reading that have not participated in the UER community, or are interested in becoming involved; I understand that it seems like we either do not exist, or that we're far too secretive. As I'm sure you can understand, we're really just trying to protect our interests. We've seen far too many locations destroyed in the past to warrant hand-outs to people we do not know; or trust. But be sure that once we are familiar with you, it gets better and we'll all reap the benefits.

Over the past year our community has grown larger and we're always looking to expand. No matter how familiar you are with exploration, this is a place to learn, share experiences and even do awesome stuff together. We're all very accepting, so don't be shy!

The first Sunday of every month, the local UER explorers meet up, have coffee, and usually go exploring. Click here too see the event page, and RSVP!

Being a basic member sucks. Trust me, we know it's frustrating as we've all been there. Click here for a post by one our moderators with a list of basic requirements, and some good recommendations on achieving your full membership.

I'd also like to add that we've all started doing this from the bottom, not knowing many locations. Half the fun is in the hunt. I get 3+ emails a week asking for locations, when many of them are not difficult to figure out with a quick google search or a little research.

TBeckerson and Symph busted out on the scene in the past couple years, they've never asked for locations and have on their own found pretty much everything I've known about, plus MANY others I haven't and still have no idea where they are. Just get active and start doing it!

Uh yeah, hi all. I'm the new guy. I have not the slightest clue why I never found this site before, but I did and I am stoked. I'm always on the lookout for new places and groups to go with. Until now it's just been me and a buddy doing our research and mapping out places to scout out.

I'm happy to see a new person here, and I look forward to meeting you in person at the monthly meet!

Hey, I'm new and stuff. I've only just recently got into urban exploring, starting when some friends and I came upon an abandoned factory that we still frequent to this day. I'm going to work on putting information on that place together, because it isn't catalogued on here as far as I can tell. I'm glad to see there's a surprisingly large amount of people in this community, especially as localized as Halifax.

Welcome to the site. I look forward to meeting you in person. In case you missed it, there's a meeting this Sunday and you should come.

As a new member there's lots of locations you can't see yet, and your factory may be known to us. If you'd like to post a picture or give us an idea where it's at, we might be able to give you information.

I live in the New Glasgow area. It's the Maritime Steel Foundry. It was abandoned in 2012. This is a picture of it from the outside, I have lots of pictures of it from the inside as well. It's located along the waterfront of the East River. If I ever happen to be in Halifax when you all meet up, I'll definitely try to make it to the meet up.

1 - This location is well known to us. However, we'd love to see your photos.
2 - If we're in the New Glasgow area, we'll try to connect up with you. We're sometimes nearby, though not necessarily right in NG. Do you have a vehicle?

I'll put together a post about my time spent there. I'm working on getting a vehicle, not so much luck with that right now though.

I swear I posted here already on the Wednesday (which was the earliest I could post as apparently you have to wait 3 days from account creation before you can do that), but hi, I'm the one who showed up to the UER meet this past weekend.

Nothing else much to add for now other than that Dal's Life Sciences Center is pretty bad at actually locking doors. (Pictures possibly forthcoming if it's still open tomorrow and I manage to get my camera to work again).

Hi! I am from Southern Ontario, but moved out to Sydney. So far I haven't had time to do any exploring out here unfortunately, but would like to get back into it.

Hello from PEI! Yes, I realize that's not Halifax, but I figured I'd say hello anyways. I'm completely new to this, and hoping there's a place or two to check out in PEI, however I'm sure places to see are pretty limited here. I dable a little bit in photography so I plan to drag my camera around. I've heard tell of an abandoned church out in the country that I may check out when the snow melts, anyone know of anything else to check out?

I'm also in Truro fairly often, might see if there's anything to see there too. I was looking up the old Debert bunker and TIL you can rent commercial space in there.. kinda cool actually.

Cheers

CuriousChemist: If we're coming to PEI, we'll give you a shout.
We're in Truro semi-regularly, and you should let us know if you're heading that way. There isn't much to see there, but there is at least one item of interest at this time.

Cool, thanks. I've learned of a couple places on PEI that aren't listed on the UER public listings that I'd like to check out once all this snow melts and it gets a bit warmer.
