Visited another mental hospital last weekend with TheSwanStation. Access to the site was very easy - no guards, difficult to see from the road, and a gaping point of entry. Besides the main building, there were several other structures on the property: a boiler / steam building, a small shed, and two houses. The steam building contains some interesting hardware. Sections of the building have collapsed and other areas are plagued by water damage so watch your step. If you have any questions, ask away.

It wasn't a mental hospital minus for a couple months to treat WWI veterans. I'm surprised this place hasn't collapsed much more

Yup it was a Tuberculosis Sanatorium originally and later used as a health and wellness center. It was a beautiful fall day for exploring, still some cool stuff to see. Parts of the building have collapsed, but the floors were still solid for the most part. I have some pictures to post as well, just need to go through them.

Not sure how or when I got that definition of "sanatorium" in my head. Thanks guys.

what an awesome explo I what to go to a place like this! the face of a building is pretty nice (1)

|
The sanatoriom was originally a health resort based on the properties of the local water. It was never used as a TB hospital. After world war 1 it was a psychological hospital. Then a health resort until it's close in 1971

It's just a matter of time before this place just crumbles, this shot gives an idea of how it's gradually pulling away from itself, its from November 2012 Crooked Walls by Freaktography, on Flickr

The building is in pretty terrible shape. It looks fine from the front. But around back is a different story. There is a large scar from the roof all the way to the ground floor and one whole rear corner of the building has collapsed. However considering the building is over 100 years old and has been abandoned since 1971 it is pretty amazing that it is even still standing. I think this has much to do with the arched ceilings used throughout the building, and general build quality. Here a a few pictures showing some of the worst spots, as well as one of the arched ceiling. 1.

Anyone know if it's still possible to get into this location easily? I can't really find any up to date info on it.

Misnomer, I modified your post very slightly to remove specifics of the POE. As a general rule, posting specifics of your POE is not allowed on UER. I realize in this case it's a pretty obvious one, but, well, them's the rules!

Without getting into any specifics I will say yes, it's quite easy. At least as of last fall, but I doubt much has changed.

This place is like a well kept secret in the town. pretty challenging to find specifics on it from outside sources. ~atothe

Any cool elevators or dumbwaiters?
|
|
Nothing that really stood out to me. Pretty sure there is a elevator but nothing special. Don't recall seeing a dumbwaiter. It's a pretty cool place, if a bit empty and falling apart. It's worth checking out just for the view from the roof.

Did you go in the basement? It's creepy and fun.

I was last there in 2012; glad to see it hasn't changed much in that time. Between July 2010 and July 2011, the north wing by the kitchen collapsed. That gash in the back wall happened between July 2011 and August 2012, likely due to the heavy snow that winter. One of the outer cottages also burned down in that time period. Probably should do a revisit here sometime in the near future.

Not sure how it has fared after last winter, we got a lot of snow by me. But this place is far enough from the lakes that they do not get quite the lake effect snowfall that we do. I should get back there sometime in the near future. We started in the basement actually, a old sun therapy machine resides down there along with a few other things left behind. Took us awhile to figure out what the hell the therapy machine was.
