At a car show over the summer:
This is a Soviet-era military motorcycle the owner had shipped over. He said the quality wasn't so good, and it's all but impossible to find parts for, but still cool:

Black out light. Gives just enough light to ride slowly with but not enough to be easily seen and targeted. It wouldn't be used all the time.

Yep. The shade opens up, too. BTW, that's a real machine gun on the sidecar.

Looks like Pull-a-Part. How often do their cars fall on people?

funny story... back in 1992, I had a Mercury Zephyr Z7 and the tailights were smashed out of it from a rear end mishap the original owner had. So I call around and call Jack's Auto Parts on Ingalls Ave in lovely Troy, NY. This street looked like it belong in Beirut! So I found a Fairmont Future with an entire set of intact tailights and they will fit in the Zephyr. Now this car is the bottom of a pile of three cars, so as I am yanking the lights out of the car, the entire pile is swaying back and forth. I get the last one out and as I slam the trunk lid closed the top car, an early 80's Escort slides off and hits the ground about 3 feet from my friend and I. Of course, being not quite 20, we thought it was hysterical!

The scrap yard I've been frequenting since I was 15 is owned by an older gentleman, who always wears a nice dress suit in his office. The prices are beyond amazing- fenders are usually about $10, engines are $80 for 4 cyl, $90 for 6 cyl and $100 for 8. But he has his quirks. It's very, very rarely an even amount. My last 4 cylinder engine was $82.30- he calls this "The taxes". And don't even think about telling him to keep the change if you were going to give him $82.50. Not happening. You're getting it back. His other rule is "Don't be climbin' on the piles". You will be told this during every visit. Even if you've gone there every Saturday since 1998, you will be told.

A junk yard I often visit used to host "Junkstock," a poetry reading held among the junked cars. He also erected the first windmill in the Cleveland area and has lots of other interesting things in his yard. I saw the guts from a gran piano there once, set up so you could play it. Sorry, no pics. Here's his site: http://www.pearlroadautoparts.com/
