New vinyl purchases

What have you bought this week/today? Let's see it!

I picked up this week on vinyl :

Death From Above 1979 - Physical world (wicked album BTW)
Interpol - El Pintor
Maroon 5 - V (not for me, for my spouse).

A couple of records arrived in the mail this week. A British member on 45cat asked me about a trade; I agreed, and the UK singles you see here are his end of the trade.

The Majority One record was an overseas purchase that ended up costing more than it should have - thanks, postage costs.

And the Attack record on London was the most I've spent on a single 45 so far...$44.00. It's been a longtime want for me though; the lead guitarist on that side is David O'List, if that's any indication of its caliber.

Today was a big day as well. When the proprietor of your favorite record store asks you if you're up for a dig through the 45 stock that hasn't been put on the sales floor yet, the only realistic answer is "yes".

I ended up getting 76 singles for a measly $5.00. (Got $30 of store credit for a couple of albums that they accepted as a trade.) Among the stuff they said was junk were quite a few hillbilly/small-label country 45s, which can certainly be collectable as a niche interest.

I'll be sure to catalog the stuff I got and post anything notable here.

(Also, is it pathetic that 76 records in one go isn't even my biggest haul to date?)

This isn't vinyl, but it is a music haul.

Back in the day, when bands or labels would send in physical records in hopes of airplay, there were a crapton of records that were never heard over the airwaves. The vast majority of these were trashed, simply because they weren't worth anything and the bands didn't seem to have any staying power.

Fast forward to 2014 and the same thing still happens, but with CDs instead of records. My college is lucky enough to have a listener-supported independent radio station. From time to time, they will gather up all the CDs that never made it to the airwaves over the past few weeks, and instead of throwing them out, will set them out for students and other members of the public to take at their leisure.

As if having an indie station wasn't cool enough...this is a really great gesture. Hopefully it helps the various singer-songwriters and bands who didn't make it to be recognized by someone instead of ending up in the trash.

Enough jabber, here's what I got.

I'm a big Small Faces fan, as well as a devotee of Ian McLagan and his Bump Band. So I'm looking forward to seeing what their newest album is like.

Nice haul! My dad used to run the campus bar at a local college, and they would get LP's from the labels all the time. When the bar was closing down, he let me go through the stack they had and take what I wanted. A lot of them were in bad shape, but I got some great stuff.

Got some stuff at Half-Price Books over the weekend:

I wanted to by the Railroad Earth one at the show a few months ago, but once the show was over, they had sold out. I was pleasantly surprised to find it at HPB.

Very cool! Are you sure it's NEVER been available? I seem to remember a friend of mine having it back in high school ca. 1983.

he may have had F13 part III (in 3D no less!) as that soundtrack was available on vinyl (had a 3D cover and came with glasses so you could "see" it) and came out in 1982 - 1983...
as for the original film - this is in fact the first time it has been available on wax (waxworks no less!)
waxworks has been pumping out some seriously sick horror film soundtracks recently...

Holy hell, some great stuff in here. I have been absent from UER for a while, and forgot about this sub, but I have to say I love that Monty Python disc Splumer.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.

It makes me a bit sad that this sub is so quiet. So:

My last few purchases:

Carbon Based Lifeforms (albums are obvious)
True Widow - Avvolgere
Sleep - The Clarity

...and a few of my fave accompaniments.

I kinda forgot about this forum. Here's some stuff I've gotten recently:
Got these at an estate sale over the weekend:

I don't know why this picture is sized so oddly. Not sure what the space shuttle one was. Haven't listened yet.

Yard sale finds. The JT wasn't in best shape.

More estate sale stuff:

That's Tangerine Dream in the upper right.

This sale was another exception. It was a 90-something year-old lady, never married, and all she did was buy music, movies and books. Pretty much every format was represented. She also had some reel-to-reels, but they wanted too much for most of them. I got the 2001 soundtrack, but they wanted too much for Star Wars (on RtR) Most of the vinyl was Christmas stuff, but there was some that was definitely not what you'd expect from a nonagenarian. It was all mint and in polybags, too. The books were a lot of horror and history and that kind of stuff. Same with the movies. She had a lot of VHS, but tons of DVD and Blu-Ray, too. I picked up the French Connection and one other I forget on BR. I told the lady running the sale that I was falling in love with the old lady who owned the house.
