my mother doesn't like Volkswagen. She says they're faggy and for little girls with big hair.
Her words not mine.
(and ridiculously overpriced.)

i thought Subaru went to timing chain... the 2015 Impreza I looked at was a timing chain engine.

And stop it... she's 65 years old and wanted something small, Chevrolet and AWD.

I was looking at 2010 models, they made the change to chains in 2011, but the 2011's in my area with low mileage weren't in my price range

I did check out The tiguan, but the storage space in the back is tiny, I would had more room in the caliber

ironically, this isn't far from the truth.
it's a 1.4L 6speed auto (same engine and trans as the Cruze and Sonic) but features AWD. The place she works is on a side road on a mountain... she feels that AWD will allow her to get to work with ease.

figured I would up date this, I know its old, so.. that equinox.. the damn equinox..

owned it for three and a half years still paying for it, only threw 50000Km on it

the battery was the first to go, then the timing CHAIN and water pump, then the brakes. burned oil faster then a civic, then the final kicker, the transmission had a complete melt down, full replacement required.

others may disagree with me, but I'm turned off of chevys and automatics for the next while.

now have a 2018 Subaru Forester Stick shift.

one thing you never mentioned was how many miles the car had on it when all this shit happened?

a battery is a wear item. sometimes you do get a bad one... it's unusual, but it can happen.

Brakes on a GM are finicky... I find with my mothers' Trax, I had to do brakes on it at 36,000 miles. She's a brake rider, though and we live in a pretty mountainous area. Again, I don't know where you live, but brakes are a little undersized for that vehicle, so yeah, I can see that being a repair issue, but again brakes are stupid easy and cheap to do on a GM. I bought ceramic pads, crossdrilled (or slotted- I can't remember and the car's not here) rotors for it... they're noisy but work well.

As a GM guy with almost 30 years of experience with all manner of GM, the water pump is no big deal to do in an Ecotec family because unlike the 2.3L and 2.4L DOHC engines of old, they are external and you can get at them, and it should've been no more than $50 for parts, no more than an hour for labor. The timing chain? that's an unusual failure in an Ecotec… I've seen 2.2Ls and even that boat anchor 2.4L get 250,000 miles out of a timing set.

and duh, automatics suck. everyone knows that.

135000 km on the odometer now, yea I know its a one in a million lemon of a car,
probably beaten to hell by the previous owner, but first Chevy and first automatic. regarding the water pump, must have had an idiot of a mechanic or a scammer. ( most likely a scammer) guy took 4 days and said he had to go digging to get to it.

your mechanic is a fucking imbecile. find a new mechanic.
you don't have to dig to get to a waterpump on an Ecotec family...
