I've been experimenting with IR photography. Thought I'd share a few of some abandoned places.

Those look cool. The first ones have a 'frosty' winter feel to them, like everything is covered in snow and ice.

These are pretty groovy. I'm curious as well how these were done.

A quick Google search will tell you guys how to get the same effect the 'fake' way, but I would assume these were done properly, knowing who took them.

I like infrared photos, especially how it makes some things look 'cold'. Your's are nice, RevSM!

Very cool. I really dig the cemetery shots. And the clouds in the village shots. Makes that abandoned housing development look even more post-apocalyptic than it already does. Well done.

Interesting work, but it's those clouds that really end this over the top!

Hey thanks everyone! So, I bought a IR 850 filter several years ago and tried to use it with my Nikon D7000 but had trouble because I couldn't focus correctly. After messing with it for a while I kinda gave up. More recently I did some reading and found that the reason for the bad focus was because IR focuses at a different distance than visible light. Turns out I have a perfect lens for that since it has the IR focus markings on it and I never knew that's what it was. Tried it and it worked but required 5 - 10 minute exposures in bright daylight due to the IR CUT filter on the D7000 sensor.

People also suggest using older digital cameras as an alternative to altering your SLR (not gonna do that unless I buy one special for that). I got my old Nikon Coolpix 8700 back from a friend and found that the filter fit perfectly and I could do hand held IR photos with it and sometimes up to 1 second exposure. Much easier to experiment with.

I've also started playing with white balance to get things to look even more interesting but I'm still working on that. I'd like to do the blue sky and golden foliage look but I don't know if the filter isn't letting enough visible light or the camera isn't able to capture enough of the light to get the data in the RAW. Just bought an IR650 filter but I'm not sure it's really what I want. It's basically just a dark red filter. More experimenting ahead.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but it's been a long time coming.

These are beautiful. I'm very interested in experimenting with IR photography as well (once my feet are a little wetter with the camera etc). It's great to see some shots like this up around here, I hope to see more now that I know what I'm looking at.
