At least there weren't 40 people inside it this time. Still sucks though.

That was building 44, one of the first ones I have ever been in. The point of origin of the fire was on the 2nd floor in a room that contained a bunch of record books and other patient files. Im lucky to have grabbed a book out of there for my collection last year. A shame that it burnt, but it's strange that the fire would be set in that exact room. Here are some pictures from that room: 1.

The blue books were just reports with numbers and vacancy reports. There were a few actual personal records, and such which my friend gave to the KP Historical Museum i believe. Glad some stuff was saved, because now there is nothing left of it, real sad. The building is still standing thankfully, but with the damage it got, might be next in Phase 2 of demolition. The sad part about these buildings, is that they have been going downhill in the last 3-4 years and it is only getting worse. It's better to preserve history, rather to let it burn or get strewn around the floor. There is basically nothing left.

Some stuff was saved and brought to the local history museum last year by my friend. We don't take stuff just for the hell of it.

The entire floor was covered in documents and books. They would have been destroyed eventually over time anyways, and now they're all gone. I don't think anybody will protest.

This is why we can't have nice things....

I would take one

i doubt he was trying to sell it, or had nefarious intent... Before National Lead was demolished, we took as much as we could to save and donated some to the Newcomb Historical Society... it's not always about personal gain. but i see what you were saying...

Exactly! In fact, someone had tried to torch the same room before, but did not succeed, so I saved one, one of the times I went. The cause of this fire was arson, and someone had deliberately started it in that same room with all the documents, which leads me to believe someone did not want them to exist any longer. Nice Chevy avatar, by the way!

The only time I get frustrated about it. Is when I go back to a place and see something gone that I think I should have taken first.
