1. While investigating a defunct cargo container yard, I discovered that it's surrounded by relics of earlier watery enterprises, like the splayed limbs of the squashed cartoon deer in "Bambi Meets Godzilla." This old train barge landing is one.
2. The high-tide mark, perhaps from a storm. In the center, you can see how the dock is slowly collapsing, leaving this platform behind.
3. A ladder on the torn-off platform. Not a recommended POE.
4. When I set foot in this shed on the opposite piles, it sagged and creaked. I withdrew my foot. I wonder what the hand-wheel was for. I read that a modern landing is raised and lowered during barge loading, http://trainweb.or.../bargeloading.html But hand power seems inadequate. Several electric winches are at the foot of the landing.

its actually a car float pier, used to put railcars on barges to ferry them around, the hand crank wheel could have been for the locking mechanism that kept the barge in place during loading and unloading of cars.

I went down there after dark on a rainy day. The lights, cranes and shiny wet pavement sure are intriguing. I was stopped by a hurricane fence garnished with barbed and razor wire that I couldn't see on the satellite view. After following it for a long ways, I saw a car cruise past on the perimeter road on the other side of the fence. I thought I was toast.
I did a 90 degree turn and headed for darkness, all engines full. I stayed away from the next road out in case he was circling around. "You can run, but you can't hide." I set up my tripod and took this, hoping that if he did circle around he'd realize I'm a harmless old nerd and leave me alone. Or even invite me in, haha!
Tremendous gusts of wind were rushing across the flat. I hung my backpack from the underside of my tripod to stabilize it. Regardless, a big puff of wind smacked the camera against my chest; if I hadn't been standing there it might have gone over.

This thread is public, so I doubt someone is willing to give you advice on entering federal property protected by USCG, DHS, Border Patrol; aside from climbing a fence and carefully observing patrol routes and where the cameras are, but that's just general common sense

I thought I had explained the pretty straightforward parts already:
1. Observe patrols
2. Observe camera spots
3. Observe dark areas and weaknesses
4. Climb a fence
5. ???
6. PROFIT

The direct approach; exciting and courageous. What a fine adventure that would be, and a tale to tell!
But, I can't see security cameras (only autofocus makes photography possible for me). And I don't like having a fence between me and escape, especially after seeing what I have to assume was security on patrol.
I've evolved a different plan, tho it may take a while. "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill."

I REALLY like looking at pic 3. Its like I'm standing there myself. I LOVE the ocean, bay areas, and anything related. Appreciated these!
