#1 is better IMO. Not because its in color but because its brighter. I think the image could work in B&W but you would need to add brightness and contrast.

I think if you brighten up the b&w one just a bit it would be amazing. I love dramatic dark b&w shots.

beating the dead horse... I prefer B&W photos myself. Like people said though, if you brighten it up some that would improve it ten fold. What program do you use to do your editing?
