NPR story. The line I liked was "Abandonment owners don't want to be found." http://www.npr.org...th-fixing-up-decay

Frustrating that outsiders can buy these places probably never intending to do anything with them. There's an old, small factory building by a place my brother owns that just sits. He'd like to buy it and put in a car shop but the owners won't sell.

Yes, a woman interviewed in the story said she can't find the owner of a property she'd like to buy and restore. Out of desperation she mailed a letter to some address with an offer, but didn't hear back. Another tidbit in the news story is that old plaster contains asbestos. 8.

I used to live down near Newburgh and my friend is a Newburgh fanatic. I've heard a story or two about things getting fixed up. Around New Years I was at the Newburgh Brewery which was in an awesome old building. I don't know if it was ever abandoned or not, but good to see it was reused. Sad to see any city that has people unwilling to help out and literally clean up, especially since there's interest.
