Long before the hospital was turned into condo's we found a pile of negs in the admin of the kirkbride, at the time I was dating a girl who was taking a photography class in college and had the teacher develop the prints for us, Every year from 1910 till 1963 the hospital hosted a sort of carnival on the grounds for staff, patients and visitors, these are a set of timeless shots from a 1952 carnival

If only this was public, I would link to it every single time somebody starts up an ethics war about saving stuff. Really great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

I just made it a public thread, I always do that with my posts, for some reason last night I must have forgot to
but yeah, these most certainly would have ended up in a dumpster during construction

These are so cool. I'm sure this carnival meant a lot to the patients, who probably didn't find much joy in their surroundings the rest of the year. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome find and a good thing you did take them. Otherwise we would have never known about this event. And considering how old they were, they sure did come out great.

Still sad I never got to see her IRL. At least we have pictures to remind us. Thank you.

Wow, at the risk of being too repetitive, that is a badass find. Effin awesome, and lucky you ran across them. I was trying to explain to someone how fucking horrible the conditions at one of those places had to be on the patients and I was trying to just find pics of the hospital, but ran across these. Wild.
Samurai ability to enter any establishment...thanks grandpa for all the training. |

Thank you for sharing. This is a slice of history I hadn't known about. What a grand old place... people don't seem to care much anymore about building things of beauty that are meant to last. And is that a petting zoo? (Not sure why I find it so bizarre and incongruous.)
