This is a home for the deaf... it was under repair after a massive chemical explosion across the river took out most of the windows. http://en.wikipedi...vers_Chemical_fire
"The explosion damaged over 90 homes, blowing out windows and knocking some houses off their foundations. Officials believed that some of the more extensively damaged houses would have to be leveled and rebuilt. Some of the buildings damaged included a bakery, boats at a nearby marina, and the New England Home for the Deaf, an assisted-living facility for people who are deaf or deafblind and elderly residents requiring constant care. "These people are extremely fragile," said state Rep. Ted Speliotis, D-Danvers, whose district includes the affected area. "Many of them have Alzheimer's and other illnesses. It's clear they can't stay here long, but it's clear they won't be able to return for quite a while.""
interesting side story, my apartment in Danvers was 50 feet away from where the explosion happened, I had moved out 3 months before the explosion leveled my old apartment
my apartment was the blue one to the left
and now the deaf home 1.

I was too far away for the windows to break, but the boom woke up everyone in my house except for my deaf grandfather. Cool pictures, I almost forgot about that this whole thing happened.

They built an updated building in the back, more state of the art and bigger, this building I believe is still disused and sits near the street

The last time I was by this place, they were renovating it. I guess the plan was to turn it into housing.
