UER Server Move Complete!
< on 6/4/2014 3:43 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
Hi everyone,

It is with great pleasure that I announce that UER has moved to it's new home and new server. The last server move was in March of 2007 and that machine has become a bit old and chunky for an expanding site like UER.

Note that UER's IP addresses have changed, so if you need to access UER by IP, please note that the new address is 76.9.215.194.

Another piece of excellent news: our monthly colocation expenses are now being donated by Beanfield! This means that you won't see any more nagging donation boxes on UER. Thanks to everyone who donated in the past, I really appreciate it!

A special thank you to Beanfield for donating this colocation space, as it will ensure the future of UER for years to come!

Cheers,
-av

I didn't think it would work, but I was able to move it entirely without going to the old datacenter, from my desk at home. Crazy how that works. Virtualization for the win!

Anyway, I still have to go there to get the old server and shut down the account.

Thought I was banned.
Was like "Great. What did I do now."

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Yay! *pats self on the back*

what happens to old servers?

I don't know -- I don't really have a use for it. Anyone want to buy a Sun Fire X2200 M2 with 2gb of ram and 2x250gb hard drives? I have a spare power supply!

The new server is an HP 1U server with redundant power supplies, two Xeon L5520 CPUs with 4 cores each (8 with HT, total of 16 processors seen by the OS), and 72GB of ram. There are 5 300gb 10k SATA hard drives in a RAID configuration.

It cost me $1,600. Not a bad deal, I don't think!

I'm getting the same error trying to view that thread without having commented in it.

Yeah, it's because Intrinsic posted source code into the thread, which my security thing interpreted as actual source code leaking out. Whoops.
