Hey, guys. Pretty new to the site, thought I'd introduce myself officially and also couple that with a warning.
My name is Magnus and I am based in Salt Lake, looking to go to Gilman, Colorado for a bit of a camping trip/urbex experience at some point this summer. I'm relatively new to this, I've hit up an abandoned motel in American Falls, Idaho and have just generally been interested in abandoned or decrepit structures all of my life, looking to get more active. So if anyone knows some good spots in Northern Utah and wants to explore with someone new hit me up.

Anyway, the rec center in Murray was recently hit up by some morons with a 2X4 and a nail remover in broad daylight. They busted open a few doors looking for a way in and broke a window out front, all in front of a large group. The owner came out and saw my friend taking pictures of the outside (no way in hell we'd go in in front of all those people)and assumed it was us, threatened to call the police.
Anyway, wouldn't go there for a while, they'll likely be locking it up a bit and will be keeping a closer eye on it.

I had a gut feeling that I should have made that location for full members only... *smacks face in disappointment*

when I was there a week or so ago, it was boarded up tight. figured it wouldn't be long before someone opened it again. Thanks for the heads-up.

I, as a basic member, really appreciate the few public posts for Utah. Also, these guys didn't exactly have tact. I'm figuring they were bored locals, and from the tools they were using it didn't seem too premeditated. Wouldn't beat myself up over it.

Same here. As a basic member, I greatly appreciated that post. Sadly there will always be idiots who have to ruin things for everyone else.

I really like this place, but have wondered who might be living in the locker rooms. I think there is a huge homeless problem in that part of town.

Made my way here only to have my phone--which I haven't upgraded to a proper camera yet--die on me in the middle of exploration. Will be revisiting and returning to this thread with some pictures, hopefully.

yeah when I went there I saw what appeared to be a masturbation station in the locker room. There was a pad on the ground along with playboy, vaseline, and various articles of women's clothing. Messed up. I think there's at least one person living there, fortunately they weren't at home when I went.

how long ago were you there? every time I drive by, I see it is boarded up tight. I know of one entryway, but am not willing to use it. I wanna get in and see the pool and hot tubs again.

I was there about 3 weeks ago. I got in through the basement, there's a metal door behind the building that has a hole knocked through the bottom half of it

As of yesterday, more front windows are completely broken, and you can just slip right in. We heard people talking in the basement, so didn't go down there... beware the squatters.

Think they'd be mad if they saw anyone in there?

Depends on the squatter, really.

To them, that place is their home, so they may see you as breaking into their house and react defensively.

On the other hand, they may be the more friendly type, and willing to talk with you.

Either way, I'd use caution around any squatters.
