Fire-damaged high school

I took a drive down to southeast Ohio to explore three abandoned schools. The first one on my list had been demolished and Amish people were building something on the property. Bummer. The second one didn't amount to much either. The third one ended up being worth it. This school served two (and in later years three) of the surrounding villages until sometime in the mid-70s. Now there are holes in the floors, the roof is collapsing and the doors and windows are gone. There has been at least one fire in the building.
1. The deteriorating school

2. View from the road

3. This was the first thing I saw upon entering the building. A little disconcerting.

4. There was a narrow room that only contained shelves.

5. Most of the hallways in the building looked like this.

6. Many of the classrooms were similar. Most didn't contain furniture other than this table and the odd chair.

7. The gym doubled as an auditorium. The roof is slowly coming down and plants are growing.

8. Welcome to detention!

9. Up to the top floor.

10. Room 10 awaits.

11. All of the classrooms had these storage closets in them.

12.

13. This bell hasn't rung in 40 years.

Despite the lack of artifacts or notable features, this school was enjoyable to explore. Other than graffiti in one hallway and somebody starting a fire, most of the damage to the school has been done by time and nature. There are holes in the floors and stuff hanging from the ceilings so I'm not sure how much longer it will hang on. Somebody lives in a house directly behind the school but it doesn't look as if they care that much about it.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing. This place looks remarkable because of the almost complete LACK of anything being left behind. True, there was a fire and it has been 40 years from your description, but nearly every place I have been in has papers, furniture, clothing and/or utensils left behind. some places literally look as if everyone just stood up and walked out w/ nothing at all. At least the folks who left this site did a good job of not wasting valuable resources!
