Yakima Underground Tunnels

Okay so I heard rumors at work and I am finding evidence of the tunnels in online articles. An old train depot that is only for tours now states they had an entrance but sealed it with cement. So now I know it exists. Other articles rumor tunnels made way back before 1900 from chinese track workers. After dark it was dangerous to be out with the white population and so these tunnels were believed to be used by them and other small dug tunnels leading to them from houses. I cant find much else. Any other Washington explorers know more about these details. Ideas on where to look for more info like schematics or things like that. I wouldnt even know where to start. The buildings that could connect are all being used.

Was hoping to start a Yakima research thread. Also Yakima is known for ufo sightings. I know its psycho but i did glance at alien enthusiasts saying theres an underground base possibly nearby as well.

Any info on known sealed entrances? I'll try to find some older maps in library archives and map out what is known, maybe it'll give an idea of a path we can follow or there might be some structures on older maps that wil correlate.

Nah, just urban rumors and wild theory Excavating is expensive and there has never been anything in Yakima to warrant the investment of an underground. The implication that there would be secret underground is also a little illogical given the ample secure space at the adjacent Army base - why put something like that in an insecure location like a city, when the base is right there?

The nearby NSA and DOD site at Yakima Training Center certainly has some underground parts. But not anything you can explore. Also though that site is still active its bones are old, so some of the SIGINT is being moved out of state and creeping towards retirement and dismantling the infrastructure.

Union Pacific was notorious for hiring Chinese immigrants for cheap labor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and a lot of the time these workers would dig tunnels for various reasons, especially after they were fired and risking deportation and would use the tunnels to escape the authorities. Bootleggers and various other roguish types would use the tunnels to smuggle as well. While I can't think of the tunnels being particularly useful that far from the ocean, it's not completely out of the question that such a thing exists.

Not to mention, older cities often have utility tunnels linking buildings together in a grid system, because a common way to heat metropolitan areas used to be centralized steam systems billed as a utility. Some of the cities around where I grew up had them, and access points in buildings that no longer used them were bricked off.

I've never been to the main post at YTC, just to the training center and cantonment areas. If there's UE to be done, I may just take leave and make a trip across the mountains one of these days.

Okay I am definitely not interested in military unless its 100% abandoned and no longer federally run. I dont wanna risk that kind of trouble.

As for the rest. Ive done some minor homework. The underground tunnels DO EXIST. They are not rumors. There are multiple old downtown buildings with entrances leading to it. Most common ones have been sealed. I would not even know where exactly the locations of these doors are exactly and the buildings publicly listed with entrances are currently owned operated and have constant flow of traffic all day every day. Its the center of the town. The RUMORS are secret alien bases and crap. Honestly they all tie to secret military bases and all I will say is this. They do exist here. There are stories. Anyone who gets too close to the truth is threatened or by rumor, bribed. A friend of mine was threatened simply because he stumbled across it on a drive. Took the shot from the road. Only got part of the building. Within a week of putting it online as a "look what i found while driving today". The government made him take down the image. Some locations are known and public, but the government simply prevents it from becoming widely public. So alien and military are no goes unless we know its abandoned and its confirmed and not rumor for me.

The tunnels though are real. The one I speak of that I am looking into was likely underground maintenance and utility tunnels. I dont know specifics, I simply know there is an "underground" and it was at one time accessible to those that needed to be there and no one ever needs to be there anymore. The chinese tunnels are a different thing but I believe prolly connected into this underground tunnel idk. But it isnt random rumor. Its been on the news and lightly investigated and is a likely possibility. People have found small tunnels dug by hand or small tools under their houses.

I know theres a lot of juicy stuff here its just no ones thoroughly searched it and i know my skills have to suck considering i dont even know where to find these archived maps and layouts people keep talking about that I can find no resource for. But I dont want to put entrances and paths in this thread. So if anyone finds a specific route we can take this discussion to private chats and organize a trip. But if someone can point me in the direction to finding out more about this stuff. Please, fill me in.

MrDr, I know one confirmed sealed entrance is in the old train depot which is now a shitty museum open for 2 months a year with a trolly ride. I believe I saw a list this morning. It mentioned the Sports Center bar having an entrance. Idk I just remember reading it. At work, co-worker states a fellow co-worker has been down there and knows a few ways in. Believe they stated the mall has or had a way down there.

The mall is the downtown mall (its now business parking garage, call center, hotel, office space, condominiums. A lot is either in permanant construction/unused) and it is on yakima ave.

The depot is on 3rd ave.

Sports Center is also on Yakima Ave a block west of the mall. I will resume the hunt later tonight and try to find that article again and reread what it says and the locations. Where are you researching this stuff at? Can you guide me along in your hunt here? Id like to learn how to do this myself instead of hiring help per se

the yakima training center and all its contents are 100% active and 100% federal.

i've seen pics of things purported to be collapsed tunnels. hand-dug excavation in a place like yakima does not last. whatever was once there, is likely caved in and done now.

i'm not sure how to respond to this, to be honest. whatever the case, these bases must not be well guarded or hidden if you can stumble across them on a drive.

there are secret (military) facilities in the USA. you generally can't get close to them, that's kind of the point. the yakima training center and the facilities housed therein are not secret, and you can't get close to them either. take all the pics you like from the highway, the echelon arrays are clear & visible and nobody will hassle you for putting pics up.

Military here. MPs don't much scare me in a UE context, it's still a challenge I'm very willing to take on. There are ways around it that are unique to military service, and I don't mean the ID card. I won't go into detail, but I will clarify that it doesn't break any rules or regulations and it doesn't compromise security of any type.

As for resources, it's simple stuff like old maps in the library or online. Honestly, go to City Hall and ask if they have schematics for the areas in question. If they're public places, they'll most likely let you look at them. If they ask why, tell them it's research for school. Worst that happens is they have you fill out some request forms and then say no anyways. No harm, no foul.

Ya if that's the case then this will be a dead end. But I really wanna follow through on this rumor and talk to the source of it this weekend hopefully. Someone claims another has been down there and knows a way and pointed him out by name. Thats a claim worth investigating to see if its valid.

I understand what you are saying, but MPs do not have a specific facility security mission for the structures in question. Protection of this and sites like it falls to DoD's (in this case, Army's) civilian police and guards, and the police and protective services of other agencies and defense branches carrying out missions here.

show up with orders or a pass & clearance to be within a certain perimeter

clarification: at least until the facilities are decommissioned one day. that day has not yet come.

Certain classified areas, sure. But trust me from experience, if you walk around with a coffee, a clipboard, and a purpose, nobody questions your presence in most places. Not even in the Post Commander's wing. You get to see/meet a lot of neat people that way.
