Huge house (?) in Grand Prairie
< on 3/29/2014 12:05 AM >

Been out looking for property for new office and one of the things I do is "drive" up and down, in this case freeways, to see if something catches my eye. Amazing how often I will spot something I hadn't though of that I frequently drive by.

So, as I was looking around I30 and Beltline, I Noticed a huge house on tarrant road, kind of a little west of the old windmill water tower that sets up on the hill on the south side of 30. I have always wondered about it but never hiked up the hill. Tried googling info on it, even tracked it back in DCAD and got owners but didnt find anything anywhere on it.

Curious of anyone knows anything about it? House, church, school, ?? PM me if not comfortable posting in public.

Thanks in advance, pleasure doing business with you, come back and see us soon!

Is this the unfinished one that the horse people tried to build then some wedding company tried to buy? I think that one is north of Dallas though.

Oops, that one is on 35

About the house in questions - maybe the best way to scout it would be through the open channel to the west of the property. Seems you can get close enough to take a peek through whatever fence or foliage is present.

And y'all may be thinking of Kirby's Mansion in Sanger, that keeps getting renovators to fall through. I want to stop by there, but Sanger built a sports complex just south of the mansion that opened in 2012. I haven't even scouted the area because it seems like it's far too high-traffic for the risk to be worth it.

Yea, there is plenty of access to the property, just don't know if it is occupied or not. Its been there forever, Seems like I remember it being like 1959 on DCAD. Anyway, haven't had a chance to go out there cause of work but may try and go this weekend. Seem like I had heard there were some crazy shoot first ask questions later types comments in a post from a long time ago. However I tried search ... numerous keywords ... an nothing came up. IF I make it out, this weekend I'll put something up, well unless my memory was right an I get shot first ... lol

Some research on Google Maps and DCAD from OP's description and I turned up an address of 811 E Tarrant. According to DCAD the same people (Name, Name, and Name et al, ie probably estate/investment agency) own it and the plot of land immediately to the west (800 E Tarrant).

DCAD info on 811: http://www.dallasc...=65154825510110100
DCAD info on 800: http://www.dallasc...=65154825510110000

Street View shows a recent-vintage chain-link gate topped with barbed wire and festooned with warning signs.

Maybe the state took it then sold it back to them?

CaryW, I think that is just for the land between the lot in question on Tarrant and the highway itself, where TxDOT had a lien/RoW and then decided they didn't need it anymore.

Also, I don't know if this falls under the "don't divulge locations" clause, but there's awfully no way to discuss legal ownership of a property without using its address.

thats some good info as it makes it appear it would probably not be occupied. As for divulging locations, I always thought that was more on entry points not locations. Scout tomorrow, see what I can find out.
