I'm having a lot of trouble finding locations around the northwest chicago suburbs...it seems like everything has been destroyed...xxxxxxxxxx was the closest to me, but that got burned down. Anyone Illinoisans out there who know of some good locations? Could be industrial/residential, I honestly don't care, I just want to find an abandoned place to take pictures. I already know of the xxxxxxx xxxxxxx in Rockford, and am planning on going there soon before its totally closed up.

Couple of no-nos here.. Asking for handouts and using location's real names. Be careful! There's lots to see in Chicago. Also, look towards the sky. ;] Check out this link!

Don't get so bummed. Many first posts are quite similar to yours.. Share stories and photos (without revealing names/locations.) Be a part of the community. Build a reputation. Then people will be more willing to share spots with ya. Chicago has a rad exploring community. Well, most of them. That Captain Stormy is a doucher. Captain Doucher.

If you're in Rockford, IL, let me know ahead of time. There's lots to see in the downtown area. If you have a lot of time, there are several rural locations too.

Wow this thread was dug up from the forgotten past. I agree that looking for things on your own is important and a lot more fun, especially if its a site that nobody else has posted. Being new, I can empathize with Ukuleleism's frustration with finding cool places to go (although how can you NOT find something in and around Chicago????). Going into places that others have already been to holds its own sense of excitement especially for the newbie. Its also interesting to see what's changed since the last post of a site and to get another person's perspective in a photograph of the location. We all see things differently and what may not be interesting to me or if I happen to miss, someone else may see it and pick up on it in an entirely different view. Asking publicly for sites is stupid however and I can only assume he didnt read the rules when he signed up. So as a newbie myself, to you other newbies, go find your own crap even if its already posted and take lots of pictures! Good luck!

If you live in Rockford, and cant find anything to explore, your in the wrong hobby. Just saying..
~Quote By Thomas Edison~ I have far more respect for the person with a single idea who gets there than for the person with a thousand ideas who does nothing.... |

I'll agree that finding stuff in the suburbs north of Chicago is hard, unless you stumble upon a company vacating a building. Hang in there.

Hello everyone! My name is Luke. I'm not sure how active people are on this site, but I will take my chances anyway. I am new to this site and urbanex in general. I've done a bit of exploring and photography up in central Wisconsin and have moved to Rockford, IL just recently. I haven't even lived here a month and already, I've got got a decent amount of places I would love to go explore. Trouble is, I'm not too keen on being by myself yet in some of the places around here. If anyone is in the area and would love to plan some exploring adventures together, that would be awesome! I hope to hear back from some of you and I will hopefully get some good pictures up here soon! Happy exploring all!
