Running into others

Anyone ever been in a building and had someone come in behind them such as scrappers, homeless, druggies, etc and you have to get to your POE, what do you do? Find another POE? Strike up a convo and see what happens? Just curious, recently I have come close to these situations, usually I try to find a way out without being noticed or seen. However what if that isn't the case?

All depends on the situation and location really. Who would be in the area? Is the area a high risk location with patrols? For the most part, I've almost always struck up a conversation with them from a distance with my camera out to let them know I'm not a threat. Hasn't gone wrong, but it's a stupid idea. Size up the threat from a distance, if it's an issue, finding another POE is likely a good option, or just hiding out and waiting for them to go away isn't a bad idea as anyone, even guards will go elsewhere. Keep your distance until you've sized up the threat though, don't just go out and say hi without knowing who, how many, and where.

Homeless people I've never had an issue with- one guy offered me a hot dog while he was barbecuing in the courtyard of a building, another gave us a three hour guided tour of a location and even gave us his cell phone number in case we wanted in again.

I've never run into scrappers, but did run into a lad who claimed to have a gun. I decided to not try my luck and left.

My only experience like this was a near run in. I was hunched over in a utility tunnel to get into a cave and while I stopped for a second I could clearly hear voices and all kinds of shuffling behind me.
Rationally I know it's just a couple dumbasses like me but irrationally I'm gripping my manhole cover lifting tool a little tighter. I have no idea how we didn't cross paths that night.

I would think if you cannot avoid them then you would actually be better off approaching them in a friendly way. I'm sure the other person/people are not expecting to run into anyone else either.

I did once meet a kindly homeless man who chatted with me about putting up for the winter in abandonments, and how glad he is he's not a junkie or else he'd be even worse off. He was a nice dude.

I did meet a rather famous tagger in the area, sonE. sonE was...just too old. Like, I get fighting the power when you're in highschool/college, but into your thirties? Once I established that I was not Law Enforcement, he asked that I leave anyway, as he "can't trust anybody anymore". Such angst.

Here's a link that really helped me when I first started. Your UE Encounter How-To book!

Usually, abandoned buildings are full of rapists and used car salesmen. Make sure to spray everyone you encounter with bearmace!

Bend over while he whispers the Oscar Meyer song in your ear while caressing your cheek gently.

My friend and I had a creepy incident during a visit to an abandoned mental asylum. Walking through the woods we were startled to come across an old woman in a purple dress hovering near the train tracks. She asked if we intended to visit the hospital, and then asked if she could accompany us. Apparently she had worked there before the institution closed and came back to visit? Anyway, we think she was a ghost. But she walked around a bit outside the building and then bid us farewell, disappearing back into the woods. I included a picture, you can see her in the background on the right side.

Yeah I am talking high patrol, high crime, sketchy areas. Locations where you look out of place.

I've run into a few squatters/homeless in some places... I've never had a lot of trouble, though. I usually carry a traveler of Jagermeister and an extra pack of cigarettes for bartering material (usually to have them let me know if security guards/cops show up). Once I had a crackhead rush me with a crowbar; thankfully I was with a group at the time, and one of my companions busted him in the knee with a lead pipe. The guy must have been fried out of his mind, because it barely slowed him down. He just hit the ground, rolled, popped back up, and took off the other direction.

General rule, though, if you're worried about running into squatters/scrappers/whatever, just bang on the door real hard as you go in and yell "Police! Anyone in the building?" at the top of your lungs. They'll scatter like roaches.

Bumped into squatters, bums, other types. They're usually very nice, never come across any psychos as everyone else seem to talk about all the time.

Did come across a group of drug dealers, who chased us out of the building.
The guy was wearing a pink glove, he was fat, and 'ok bye' was the last thing I said to him.
