There was a wee little house a ways out of d'moin that I stumbled on once driving home from said city. It had burned... cute little place. I didn't have a lot of time or anyone around so I didn't crawl in but I took a handful of pictures from the ground through windows. My camera was crapping out, also, so half of those didn't even focus. I went back less than two months later with a friend and the place had been bulldozed so thoroughly that I drove by the lot three or four times up and down this stretch of back-road before I realized what had happened.
Posted by johnnycanuck Has anybody else had big disappointments with explorations? Sites that weren't worth the trouble, or places that you saw slip away?
Probably anyone that explored for more than five minutes would have had such disappointments.
My biggest disappointments happen more often than not. They're never about the condition, age or coolness factor of the sites. It's about finding new boards, new welds, new bars, new fence, new security guards, new cement, new cinder blocks, new bricks... yes even a city police officer snoring in his patrol car, about fifteen feet away from the access door, at the curb. I remember getting past the guarded gate at the Trenton Kirk, just to get followed by a state police officer in his car while I was looking for a place to park. He followed us through the asylum to the exit gate. I had to opt for NAWCAD, which was in the same city. I was also followed from the edge of ECH and all the way out to the town border by a local LEO. I had to circle around wide and come in through the woods. The only bad time is a time you get denied access to your passion.

Spending so much time to climb all the way up to the roof of an abandoned ice skating rink, climb down the rafters, walk halfway across the rink, and have an insanely loud alarm go off

What happened with that?! Did you get caught by a rented officer?
I don't know about my biggest disappointment but I hate seeing a cool old place with obvious easy access but an active home right next door and the people home....argh foiled again!!!
Or getting to a beautiful old secluded home only to find that despite the seclusion the stupid vandals and taggers were there before me, and nothing to see but the wreckage...
I'd say my biggest disappointment is a tunnel that I'm not convinced exists, or if it does it's in a completely different location then the rumors, or completely covered now. I suspect the tunnel was just an urban legend, though I went several times to it to try and find it as I live quite close by. That said I still have the intentions to do one last trip there do go through the area very thoroughly in an attempt to find it.

Me and some friends went to this location where a girl was murdered (around 1 1/2 years before). The location had ruins of old buildings but when we got there everything got razed except for two buildings. It was still pretty spooky but not as exciting as we hoped.

I went to an abandoned school where a girl had been raped & murdered.
I wondered if I'd be able to figure out where it exactly happened. The broken pieces of police tape attached to 3 poles was a bit of a giveaway.
Wierd feeling looking at the exact place where she died.
Anyway, I finished masturbating & went & explored the rest of the school.
I shot this video for a short-film night we have (I forgot how dodgy this clip was until I just watched it again now) on the same visit that I first saw the murder sight so it was a bit creepy (I was on my own).

Ummm no actually we climbed down and got into my car and chilled out for a minute because our adrenaline was pumping, and then two cop cars showed up down the ST and one cop started patrolling cars with a flashlight to see if he could see anything. Luckily my rear windows are very tinted, but we were very stupid. We hadn't cleaned our hands and both of the front windows were open. Never going to make that mistake again.
