Bixby Bridge, Big Sur coast.
1. The pristine beach under the bridge
2. Looking up from way down.
3. Setting sun...
4...followed by the setting Moon.
5. View from the beach.
6. Last shot of the night.
There are a couple of ways to get here. The canyon to the beach is mostly private property which requires crossing to get there. We chose to walk in the creek that snakes down the canyon, believing we were on public property. One resident came out and informed us that that was not the case. We were still trespassing but he allowed us access along the trail anyway, which my numb feet really appreciated. The other route to the beach is down a very steep cliff which several people have attempted and failed to navigate. Well worth the effort in my opinion.

What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy, and joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money, we eat and make money to be able to live. That is what life means and what life is for. - George Mallory. |

Beautiful pictures! What settings did you use on the final one, if I may ask?

Thanks Dilapidated.. ISO 2500, 25 secs. at f5.6. I tried a couple different settings to try and get the Milky Way to stand out a bit more but had no success. Maybe a little too much light pollution or haze..that's my excuse anyway.

That pesky light pollution can sure be a pain.. I wonder how much trouble it would be to cause a city wide blackout to get the perfect shot..?

Breathtaking photos. The ocean is the thing I miss most, while living in the Midwest. This set definitely has me yearning for home.

Cheers Seedy, Freddy & Crows, your comments are appreciated. Crows, I think we all take Cali for granted sometimes, and then realize how good we had it when we leave. Hope you make it back here someday.

Awesome photos. I've seem so many shots of this bridge but never from below. Sounds like the trek down was pretty fun.

Fusspot, Meow..thanks. The hike in was short, but wet..and numbingly cold on the feet. I'm taking the cliff route next time But you're right about there being few photos taken from below. I guess there aren't many photog's willing to risk their gear, or lives on the climb down.

I think I'm on a roll. The Monterey County Convention and Visitors bureau have asked if they can use #5 as the photo of the week in their 'See Monterey' blog site. Why not? I'll take the local exposure.

Looks like you've been getting out a lot, wish I could say the same. Very nice images Talisman. The clarity and framing on 4 and 5 are beautiful.

Thanks D, been taking advantage of the dry weather and this spot is one I was anxious to get to. Hadn't found any really good shots from under the bridge, so I was really happy to get a couple that I thought turned out o.k. Our friend James accompanied me on this trip btw. He was ecstatic when we arrived at the beach.
