That and the T5, to compete with sprinters and stuff.

Eurovans are awesome and far from gutless... they have an insanely beefy undercarriage with massive torsion bars in the front and coils in the rear (with independent suspension) that look like they were borrowed from a Freightliner.
|
it's called power to weight ratio... I'm sure teh Eurovan is just wonderful in ways that unicorns and rainbows are contained inside. However, you cannot beat the power and comfort of a RWD van for transporting 15-17 people that you don't like. One of the weirder things I have noticed about me lately is this strange fascination and irrational desire for a conversion van... That kind of creeps me out. ;)

conversion vans are awesome, I would LOVE an early 2000's ford prevost diesel van conversion so I can haul a boat, cars, campers, and still seat 7 in comfort. Bandi I love euro vans but whats the deal with the transmissions ?

Routan is the biggest piece of shit ever, I think almost half of the ones sold at my freinds dealer people tried to return them. The eurovan is a reliable tough working van, and will outlast any RWD american trash van.

LOL I beg to differ. that's why there are just so many Eurovans here as working vans... oh yes. Sometimes you talk out your ass because your mouth knows better, Nismo.

I actually agree with Sam on this, econoline and Chevy vans go forever.

in my experience, the only thing that really fails on those vans (ford, chevy and dodge) is the transmissions (moreso the ford and dodge). It seems they forgot how to build a good automatic. And Fords, for the longest time you could get an actual 4x4 Econoline, not AWD. I figured Skelly would end up with one of those.

I would love to have a E450 with the 7.3 IDI in 4WD But the Caravan gets back to the roots of what Americans want in a car! They want something that is cheap to buy, cheap to own and cheap to repair.

Rear brakes every 20k at $300 ain't exactly cheap.

when was the last time you worked on a Caravan or Town & Country? they ain't cheap to repair, my son.

I recently purchased a 02 T&C. Has 206k on it and seems to run and drive ok. Far as vans if you want a fullsize get a Ford or Chevy. If my time in ND taught me anything it's that those with a 4wd conversion and the diesel are the toughest things on the damned planet.

I don't need four wheel drive but in having problems finding a conversion with a diesel (reasonably priced that is) seams anything with a diesel is twice the price of the same vehicle that's gas.

The current 4.0 liter likes to drop valve seats, too. That engine is a bit of a whore to work on. ACTUAL service literature instruction? "Get some jacks to support the engine." (When you remove the mount." ...Get some jacks. Okay. Some.

They don't build them like they used to

Hell no. My dad had a base model '86 Caravan with a carbed 2.2 that would not die. He sold in in '01 with 485,000 on the clock- total repairs were 2 rads and an alternator. It wasn't even rusty, and the paint didn't fall off. The old couple that bought it is STILL driving it today, and they go to Florida with it a few times a year. I learned to drive on my mom's '91 3.0 Caravan- and although it ran on 4 or 5 cylinders most of the time, that van was used a Jeep, a sports car, a tow truck, a camper van, a dragster, a battering ram, a snowmobile and a tractor. A new one wouldn't take 1/100th of the abuse I put that poor thing through.

I admit, I haven't worked on the Gen 5 Caravans at all, but I have worked with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 on other rigs and its no worse than any post 1996 car I have worked on.

I had a 94 voyager base model 3.0 I used to tow cars , a very large landscaping trailer as well as a travel trailer. I miss that thing.
