The Lost City of Sodom

This past Sunday I had a really great adventure. I spent two hours poking around a vast, ruined, ancient city!

Okay... I can't lie. I didn't really stumble upon an actual ruined, ancient city. By "ancient," I mean it is only about four years old, and by ruins I mean decaying wood structures and a whole lotta chiseled styrofoam. Inhabited mostly by vultures, squirrels, and really fast and cute little lizards of all kinds of species.

It is only a movie set for the really crappy, mid-2000's cheesey-crappy comedy-history genre film, Year One. I'm glad that fad died out. Those movies sucked! But the replacement of this genre with the fail-doomsday-epic-comedies is not much better either... I'll shut up!

With all being said, this was probably the COOLEST place I have scoured... If I was still a kid I would have thought I hit the jackpot. I could have had my very own fortress!

I am posting 15 pictures. If you want to see the full album (including a few panoramas), here is the link; http://s887.photob...odom?sort=2&page=1

Enjoy

Guard-shack near the gate entrance

My first view into the "city"

We were being watched.

This view really made me feel like I was in an ancient city! This is the entrance to one of the side village paths that branched off of the main "courtyard"

Around the corner from the main gate entrance

I walked up these stairs to a plaza on top of the roof but didn't go on it as it was not very stable

Here's a shot from the rooftop plaza

Howdy!

We had company.

Walking back into the courtyard

The Temple? Didn't look safe to go any further into this area so I stretched my arm out and got a shot.

The bull-head.

Lastly, the dunes north of the village site.

It is a very safe explore, but I would bring a bike as the way to get to it requires a little trekking. Also there is a public parking area not too far from this location, so no sketchy situations whatsoever. It would be a good place to pack a picnic and spend the day out there.

The structures are mostly boards, wire mesh, spray foam and plaster so please be careful and sensible.

When I am full member I will add it to the database, but I gotta earn that

You are certainly on your way to that! Most like to meet face to face before we commit though.

Fantastic location. Thanks for posting. I'm not that far from there and I had no idea that this was over there.

Awesome find! I've been exploring around the Shreveport area and had no idea this was even around. Apparently not a lot of other people do either or it'd be tagged to shit by now.

RevSM- we will have to plan a UE etx/nla meet and greet. or explore party. or something.

I would not mind revisiting this location again. Bikes are required though. People don't think much of someone riding a bike down a rural road. But, a pack of people walking looks like trouble. And... It would be a heck of a walk.

Raticus- I've known it was there for a long time and wish I would have went a couple of years ago... It would have been nice to see it when it was still fresh.

I've been to the other set too, but all that is there is a tall styrofoam monument. To get to this you got to fight your way through a freaking jungle. This location is nowhere close to the village.

jexta- Big fish?! omg. I really liked that movie. I bet that was awesome. I like exploring old forgotten houses so that would have been right up my alley.

undercontrol- the most damage was done by time and weather. there were no tags that I seen except for words that looked like the movie crew had sprayed. Someone busted all the glass in the guardshack though.

Yes, I'm down! I don't live near by but a friend has been wanting to go with me to check out New Orleans so maybe we could stop by on the way. Also, my parents live near Texarkana so Shrieveport isn't that much further from there. I'll be sure to let you know if I'm going to be around.
