New member of the VW family

Traded in my 2001 GrandAm in for this beauty on Saturday:

2013 Volkswagen Jetta SE

With only 9.6k mi on the clock, I think I got it for a really good price, considering it's under warrantee for the next 4.5 years, and all maintenance covered for the next 2.5 yrs. The dealership also offers free lifetime oil changes...so that's at least an option also.

All in all, I'm pretty damn happy to be driving my first non-American car.

Ask him why he traded. It wasn't because the Pontiac worked well. O.o

So far, everything works as advertised. I hope the electrical gremlins stay away. But, if they don't, I've still got over 4 years left of warranty!

I loved my Grand Am, but it was time to move on. It gave me way too many problems in the end. The kicker being quoted something around $1200 to replace the valve cover gasket. On top of the other mounting repair costs... it was simply time to go.

That, and it threw a PASSLOCK code on more than one occasion, making me stranded for anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours, constantly trying the reboot procedure. When it PASSLOCK'd me out for long enough I couldn't go spend time with my daughter, it's fate was sealed.

gm's of that era are terrible for passlock issues. Im assuming your speaking of headgasket or intake manifold gasket problems... there notorious for both.

Nope... valve cover gasket. Well, one of them. But it'd be silly to replace just one. Unmounting the motor from the frame AND taking the timing components off just to change those gaskets is insanity.
