I was two feet away from this two days ago, it's a Georgia Brown Recluse Spider, took 4 shots, mainly to confirm and identify the arachnid. I've seen first hand what this little guy can do to a person. I thanked God for the safe trip when i was done, and I thank the spider for not choosing me to bite. It shakes me now, thinking about how I handled myself well. Yep.

When you've already made it inside and then you hear your exploring partner outside talking loudly with someone (with a large barking dog) then him apologizing profusely and driving away without you.

Worst 'Oh shit' moment:

Me and my buddy were taking shot on a road rail bridge during the night, when all the sudden, the bridge started to shake. I looked over my shoulder and there was a train coming on the bridge . Adrenaline was kicking hard since we had no place to go to avoid it and jumping in the water was not an option . We climbed the structure and it took 10 minute for the train to pass , it was scary as fuck.

Sorry for my bad grammar , english is not my first language !

I was exploring the Gaebler Children's Center in Waltham, MA (back when it still existed) with a couple of friends. We started to hear what we thought were voices, but it was distant enough that we couldn't be sure so went about our business and tried to keep quiet. A few minutes later we walked into the cafeteria area only to find three people standing there in the dark, one of whom was poised like he was about to charge and tackle someone.

This is the first time I had run into anyone exploring. They were as on edge as we were but fortunately everyone calmed down pretty quickly and we ended up exploring with them for a couple of hours. It was a good reminder though that when nerves are high people can do irrational things and to always be careful.

One of those moments for me was when i was exploring an abandoned house with a bunch of friends. we had been there a couple times before and just used it as a place to hangout. One of the times we were hanging out and one of us decided to look out the window into the driveway for some reason. (the building was a ways off the road so it was a perfect place to go) and saw someone pull in. wer all looked at each other and kind of gave each other the "I don't know that car" look. we grabbed all of our stuff and booked it out into the woods.

I had a semi off-road bike in South Africa, and I would ride it in search of places to go off road. I found a place in Centurion, Pretoria. There was a small rock building that looked like it was a farm building from a hundred years ago. Further in I found the foundation and front steps of a house, and a swimming pool next to it. This find is what turned a small spark of interest from living in London into a raging fire.

After a few hours of walking around on the large city property, as it was getting dark, I decided to go home. The border of the property and neighbouring golf course is the Hennops river, which floods regularly. I rode my bike over fallen reeds and got stuck. Next thing I'm surrounded by Zimbabweans, illegal immigrants who are squatting in the rock building, and I didn't know about them. These are the people the city authorities were trying to get rid of. They were squatting there because circumstances are not in their favour. They picked up the bike for me, and invited me to go eat with them. I am white so why are they inviting me? It turns out they are just really friendly people.

I am glad to say that I have changed a lot since 2008. Now I every year I send my brother to give them clothes and groceries.

I have a few "oh shit" moments, here's one.

Me and two other explorers decided to check out this abandoned police station in a rather busy area, apartment buildings across the block & businesses. The only POE was on this little roof through a window onto the second floor, so after we figure that out we climb a tree to get to this roof, and once we're up there we slide the window open and just as the last one of us is halfway through the window, I see a cop climbing up the roof, I think we saw him before he saw us (if he even did see us, but we assumed he did), so we said "oh shit" hurry up and get in here! So in a tiptoe run we made it up to the third floor and looked out of a window & saw the cop just standing there. So we figured he wasn't coming in so we decided to explore the place. Well,as we were leaving the bastard put a massive rock against the only POE window and it was slammed shut. Luckily we found another way out but it was just crazy to think that a cop would trap us in the building. Probably assumed we'd have to call 911 to get us out. Wouldn't go back there though. Pigeon carcasses and shit everywhere. Though it was a fun little adventure

Went out yesterday to a fairly popular local abandonment, and was doing some photography. I had to walk along the top of a brick wall to line up a shot. No problem. On the way back to the platform however, I made the mistake of looking down. One side was a maybe 5-6 foot drop into a room covered in leaves and branches, while the other side was about the same level, with the exception of the area right next to the wall, which had a narrower drop of another 6-8 feet down. Suddenly found myself with some shaky legs up there, but got back and got to solid ground.

Interestingly enough, almost saw someone take a tumble down another hellhole.

We were exploring an old church/girl's school and had been inside about an hour. Out of the blue the owners show up with some potential buyers for the property and come inside. For the next hour and a half we stayed one step ahead of them. They left, we finished getting our shots and we were gone...

Couple of weeks ago, saw this guy driving past when I was halfway out the window broken window.

This was on his turn around, he stopped and waved, I waved, and he drove off.

I was a little worried due to the reputation for some of the LEO of the area.

I was exploring some construction sites (money ran out for the owners and so they were left to rot) in Royal Park, Azerbaijan, with a buddy of mine. He was trying to introduce me to Urbex and thought that, with the beautiful view of Baku and the surrounding area plus only mild security presence, this would be a good first spot. About an hour after jumping into the first building, we end up at a pool room. At this point the pool basin itself had a hole in it that led to the pump house, small but we could fit. While we were in the basin snapping photos we hear two or three sets of footprints jogging down the hallway to where we are, and we look at each other and I slide into the hole first, him following suite. The only problem we hadn't thought about yet was, the hole was pitch black and neither of us had thought about light, it being sunny outside and this being my first and one of his first goes at exploring. Instead of fumbling around in the dark and making all sorts of noise, we decide to wait it out in what felt like a corner. Never been more scared in my life than the thought of middle eastern prison.

I have sure enjoyed reading this thread......I have only been exploring for a couple of years and always fantasized about the opportunities large cities provide for explorations....but Damn you guys are creative.....
I have 2 oh "shit moments" ...one was when I got caught and that was more like "oh Damn"

The other was walking thru an old mental hospital that I had been dreaming about getting into for years.....I finally got the chance...was alone...before sunrise.....all of a sudden ..Im inside and I just could not believe what I had just done.....lets just say I am an older lady, with no experience ......

Im so fascinated.....walking along...and I get to a doorway and see this...

so after I caught my breath, I realized the situation I put myself in was not ideal......Imagine falling, breaking both legs,.....and your cell phone flies out of your pocket and busts....and you lay there looking at some porno graffiti....while you bleed out... 1.

Checking out an abandoned cabin that sits right on the Main Street of a town near me. Walking around the side to try to find a POE and I see a cop car coming. I move a bit more towards the back of the house, only to notice he's now slowing down. I literally DIVE into the bushes at the back of the house (probably not the best idea at the time). He stops in front of the house and just sites there for a few minutes before driving away. I decide "screw this, I'm done" and go through a patch of woods behind the house to an empty lot where I parked.

Drive by the cabin three weeks later, fresh set of "No Trespassing" signs posted on the front.

I'm facing away from my friend while setting up my tripod. I hear dogs and assume they are behind a fence on the neighboring property because my friend has said nothing. I turn around and there are five very large dogs surrounding her and she is standing, frozen. I have no clue how to handle this one, so I slowly extended my tripod and walked in her direction. I didn't look at the dogs directly, but held that damn tripod like a baseball bat while she and I backed away. Only one of the five dogs directed their attention at me the entire time. They barked, growled, and snarled, but did not attack. As soon as we crossed what seemed to be an imaginary boundary, all five dogs completely lost interest - unless we stopped walking away, then one or two of them would begin a low warning growl and their attention would refocus on us. Needless to say, we did not go back.

This was my first issue with dogs, but I've always known that they can be a real threat. Fortunately, we both made it out alive and unscathed. Just rattled.

I have started carrying dog treats and extra dog food with me, because this has happened to me on numerous occasions. Many times, the poor dogs are hungry, so feeding them helps.

I have been a land surveyor in Texas for a number of years, and have moved around the state quite a bit. I haven't had a real camera until about 6 months ago, but have been "exploring" for many years, going back to my childhood. But I have 2 pretty good Oh Shit moments.

Years ago when I lived in Houston I was surveying a property outside of downtown that was next to a large brick warehouse, with a large hole broken out of the side. We were finishing up and my helper and I decided to enter the building to look around. This is before the days of cellphones with flashlights and all that. I didn't have a flashlight in the truck so it was really dark inside. We were in quite a bit and letting our eyes adjust to the darkness when I started noticing a hallway off to my right. Then some rustling coming from that way. We are still adjusting and looking around when I hear foot steps running my way from down the hallway. I step out of the way from the hallway entrance just as a naked bum comes running by and out the hole in the wall. He never stopped running as far as we saw. Took me a while for my heart rate to come down. We continued to look around in there. Looked like people had been having raves and the bums lived in there also. Crazy day.

Recently wife and I have started taking picture together and running around we had gone to this particular spot once before it is pretty well traveled abandon spot, I won't share the location. The first time we went it was on a Saturday evening and took picture of the abandoned hotel there, one of the rooms maybe the caretakers room is still occupied and they were home. There are no trespassing signs around so we stayed in state right of way and took pictures from there. We had the opportunity to go during the week. There was no one around this time so we went in quite a few of the building but the big one was the cafe and motel office. We get down there taking pictures of this old motel that surrounds the cafe/motel office looking for a POE. As we get around to the side by the occupied room we see a door that is standing wide open, Success. My wife stroll right in the place like she owns and I follow. We are in there quite awhile snapping away and enjoying the mess and no graffiti. I look out the window down the road and here comes a full size truck with a light bar on top. We at this point had never had a situation like this so I told my wife to get into cover and we headed for a bathroom that had a wall blocking the view to the street. Little did I realize my wife becomes a big klutz when stressed and in a hurry. She kicked and tripped over everything loud in the way to the bathroom, so I was really on edge at this point. I look out and the truck had stopped right outside the window. Crap. We hear the doors open and close then more doors open. At this point I got a bit curious so I move to take a look outside and see it is TXDOT truck and he is just taking a leak between the doors. So we relax a bit an let him do his thing. He gets back in his truck but takes forever to leave. My wife is really really antsy at this point so we decide to move for the exit, bad idea. We start that way and I silently move around the wall and start heading for the exit I turn around and here comes my wife but as she turns the corner she trips over some sheet metal then kicks another piece as she is getting to the door way. Adrenaline running we get out the door. We just come out on the road like we were never in there and just keep snapping pics like we never saw him. He turns around and leaves and I wave at him in a nice manner he looks at me crazily.

Those are my two best stories Sorry for the wall of text.
