I'm debating on a 2" suspension lift and some beefier tires. Modern day baja bug, anyone? (Remember my lifted Tercel? It was awesome.)
It's a 2001 2.0 gas, 5 speed. Heated seats still work. Paid $250 as the timing belt is 4,000,000 miles overdue and the steering rack is toast. Doing the t-belt tomorrow and I'll get around to the rack one of these days- salvaged a good one from the VR6 Jetta I parted out. If all goes well and I get some projects done, in the spring I want to drop it down again, and transplant a VR6 into it. Then I will go fast. And sound nice.

That's the worst photo I've ever taken. It looks like there's snow! There isn't!

i bought a black 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier coupe the other night for the measly sum of $450... 2.2L OHV/3speed- 120k miles. it's rusty but trusty... needs the muffler/intermediate pipe and the tires are fucked. Pics to come when i get it home.

Nice find... good price. I cut out and replaced the rotted rocker area on my car last week- I'm assuming the car was hit there, ground down to bare metal (going by the grinder marks under the bondo) and then had about 6 lbs of bondo spread over top, which just held in a gallon of water, rotting out the rocker.
I'm having fun with this car. It's a blast in the snow.

lets be honest, the whole point of a winter beater is to have a car that you don't give two shits about... it's like hiring a vehicle prostitute... you drive the car for a while, do weird freaky shit with it and then throw it away.

A 5spd tracker just came in that had some rusted body mounts and failed inspection. It took everything I had to not offer him money for it.

I made ridiculous profit on last years edition. And the 2' rust hole in the side of this car was gonna get me a free safety inspection one day, so I figured I should cough up the $60 and fix it. Plus it's probably getting a VR6 swap in the spring so it may as well be nice.

do you have an type of inspection before a car can be driven on the road up there? Here we have an emissions program and an annual safety inspection.
|
|
One safety inspection when you want to buy your license plates for a newly aquired car, and a bi-annual emission test if your car is newer than '87. So yeah, there are some pretty epic shitboxes that had a safety inspection 10 years ago driving around here. Sometimes the ministry of transportation does random inspections, but not that often. When they do, the results are usual a lol fest.

Is the Manual trans in this beetle the same as an mk3 one?

Here in NY, you have a yearly safety inspection (and window decal to remind you). It costs $21 for a mechanic to wheel your car in, put it on a lift, look it over, check the brakes, suspension and tires and then hook your cars' computer to another computer that talks to the computer at the Albany Headquarters of the NY DMV (OBDII and newer cars). It runs through your trouble codes and if there are no issues, it passes. Over in Vermont, during their yearly inspection, any rust over a certain size has to be either painted over, or otherwise covered or the car does not pass. Now, in downstate NY and Long Island, cars have to actually have the tailpipe sniff test. Here, in the middle of nowhere, nay.

Nope, Bugs are the same as an Mk4 tranny. (Actually, the first mk4 platform car VW made was the Beetle.)

Too BAd - IF you were going to be doing a VR6 swap you might have had a buyer for the transmission, and shifter.
