Want I should repost it so you could try that again?

Dang, the taggers have really been going at that place.

Everybody and their grandparent's have been to Byron it seems. Last time I was there, a group of about 12 teenagers walked out to there while we were leaving. They didn't even have booze or anything, so who knows what people do out there.

Great pictures! Place is worth checking out. Went a couple weeks ago on a Sunday and didn't see any other people, although there were 4 or 5 cows wandering the property at the same time that I was. It's across the street from some kind of industrial plant which you can park your car in front of, then walk about 3/4 of a mile along a dirt road that takes you right up to the building.

The rumors about the owner trying to restore it and turn it into a "premiere tourist destination" (per a local newspaper article from 2008) strike me as really odd. I mean, it's in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a small private airstrip and farms. Not to mention the goliath clean up effort it would take to get this place anywhere near habitable.

If they were to turn it into a tourist spot, the current building would certainly be torn down completely. It would be next to impossible, definitely not cost effective, to bring it up to current regulations.

Sad, really. Such an amazing building in it's day, and such history.

Same thing happened to us -- it almost felt like they were trying to recruit us onto their air soft team with how willing they were to talk to us haha

We went back and airsofted with them later, it was some of the most fun I've ever had airsofting. So much better than arenas with fake plastic obstacles. I'm just disappointed we didnt get to do it while the cars were still there. I would have loved to hide inside of the hearse and shoot people :/

It seems like they are just there to vandalize. I ran into high school kids there to just write on the walls and then leave.

Yeah. This is a good example why explorers, or anyone, shouldn't give away locations away. They'd probably get thrashed like this place. Can you imagine how awesome this place would be if it didn't have all this crap done to it?

I understand, but I do disagree to an extent just because there are places as an explorer I'd love to check out but can't figure out an exact location to. However, I do agree that it is a shame that so many people want to wreck these places. The kids I ran into were kinda nice but shady, I got the vibe that it was a popular hang out for local kids despite it being in the middle of nowhere.

Then again, there still is marble in the stairs, so a lot of the grand parts of the site are still there. Not as much, but still beautiful.

There's graffiti that ruins a place, and graffiti that makes a place stand out a bit. I know it sucks to ruin the place, but I've sound some of the prettiest graffiti pieces in abandonments that have only enhanced photos. A place like this, the graffiti is a nice touch.

The problem with this modern graffiti is that it likely covers-up & ruins some historic graffiti that's likely to date back to the Camp Tracy days.

Hit up Byron a couple weeks back on my way back to the Bay from Stockton. Approached the building and heard some people inside, it was taggers so I kinda yelled from outside and just made my presence known and told them I was taking pictures. I end up getting inside and its 3 high school kids, a guy and two girls and they have spray cans and are writing stupid shit on the walls and bombing peoples pieces…. Annoying as hell to be around but nonetheless I did my thing and explored the building top to bottom. The cow poop was a trip because there were dumps all over the first floor of the building and I'm thinking to myself how fucking scary it would be if you went here at night and a cow was walking around in the basement! Heres a couple shots~

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like the kids I ran into when I explored.

I was right next to this last month. My CAP squadron was flying gliders out of the airport, and I was within eyesight of it the whole day. Would have loved to go, but, I carpooled there and we were on a tight schedule.

I love how you got the light and contrast silhouette of the architecture in this photo. Great work.
