A history report will probably give you the current owners name

i don't want to pay the rape-fee Carfax charges... I tried search the NY DMV, but I think the car has left the state and Vermont doesn't have anything online.

I mentioned in the other thread that I'm searching for my mom's Fiero. She sold it to a co-worker almost 20 years ago, who daily drove it until sometime before he died in 2010. Awhile back I found old insurance dox from the car, which had the VIN...

I first tried the IL secretary of state's website for a title status inquiry - which confirmed the car's title had not changed since she sold it on 2/23/94, and confirmed it had not been through any yards. Not sure what other states have this unless you go to the DMV.

Then there was a glitch with Autocheck where you could run a history report for free, so I ran both my Fiero and her's. AC actually had more info than Carfax, who was unaware of my car's accident in 1990 (I already knew about it based on the non-factory paint and door from an 84 - 84's had a notch cut into them at the top-rear of the panel). Her's was last registered in Zion, IL in October 2007; it should have less than 75k miles on it. No names or anything, though.

They've since fixed it, but supposedly the glitch still works sometimes:
http://www.fiero.n...1/HTML/091853.html

Finally I was actually given a family contact: the granddaughter of the guy who bought it, but I've received no response from email or Facebook; so the trail is cold again. I also have a Craigslist ad up for shits and giggles, but have heard nothing from that either.

I'm almost certain it's sitting in a garage somewhere in Zion - where, exactly, is still a mystery.

I've been searching for my great grandfather's '54 Convertible Beetle for a while... it's in Florida. It's right hand drive. How many could there be?

according to info I was able to get from the p-r office at Lordstown Assembly, there were only 957 2007 Cobalts SS/SC like mine. I know, that sounds like a lot, but figure how many of these cars were totalled by now.

I think he has a good point.

It's a souped-up Cavalier that looks flashy, how many could possibly survive?

There were only 318 91 dodge spirits with a 2.5 turbo and manual, not even breaking down color, options, etc, yet KBB and my insurance company only valued my car at $700 in good condition.

Rare doesn't mean desireable. Just saying :p

Give him a break...as much as we give Samurai shit for loving his cars the way he does, he's a car guy like the rest of us.

Anyways, in NYS, Sam, this can help: https://transact.dmv.ny.gov/TitleStatus/
