Jasmine & the Spooky Farmhouse [NSFW]

I had to get creative with the lighting in some of these shots because we had like 10 minutes of light left by the time we got in the house and all I brought was my camera, a reflector, and my LED flashlight. So some of these I used the pop-up flash, and some of them I pointed the flashlight into my reflector to diffuse it... turned out pretty good actually!

I think I'm in love!

Bad lighting can become good, creative lighting. They work.

I shoot with her a ton, she's an awesome model!

And I agree about the lighting, it seems like whenever I have to really force myself to get creative with bad lighting is when I get some of the coolest results.

I think next I'm going to see if I can pull off a long exposure/light painting shoot with her using just a flashlight

That's very challenging. Do it.
But your model has to be in a pose they can hold
perfectly still otherwise motion blur.
I'll take six light painting shots in a row
and only get one useable due to this.

what if I use the flash light almost like a rear curtain flash? Like a 10 second exposure in an almost pitch dark room, then hit the flashlight on the model right before the shutter closes? Seems like it would work, might need to bring something to diffuse it though

I'd practice light painting w/o a model first if it's relatively new to you. The best success I've had is with using an off-camera strobe to light the subject/model and use the longer effects of the exposure to capture the background ambiance (such as stars of a night sky). Painting her with a flashlight is gonna take like ten seconds minimum on its own, depending on how bright the light is and how wide your aperture is.

I have a ton of practice with off camera lighting (pro strobist ) which I guess counts as light painting, I've just been into trying to get cool results using the minimal amount of gear possible

On the topic of "making shitty lighting work", here's a couple shots from a shoot I did using only an old school projector for lighting

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

I agree. If you look at the window your imagination can see all sorts of things there.

Of course looking at the model is sweet too.

Lasso, I'm not sure why I hadn't commented until now, but this is freaking outstanding work.
