**All discussion regarding unauthorized exploration is theoretical in nature. This place is too dangerous to explore without authorization.**
Been a few threads on this place. Here's what we know:
--"Big" tunnel, including huge caverns, is approximately 6-7 miles in length, and 300+ feet underground
--Tunnels are purported to be flooded but it's unknown if this is just the local tunnels by the main facility or the main ring itself, as nobody has ever found a reasonable access point for the "big" part of the tunnel, afaik
--Access to the biggest tunnel is unlikely to be gained from the main facility, but could possibly be gained through a number of shafts which exist along the track of the main tunnel
GOAL: Gain access to any shaft which connects to the main tunnel. If shaft is clear, and main tunnel not flooded, one or more humans are to be lowered safely down into the tunnel for purposes of exploring and also to create comprehensive documentation of the entire area both by photo and HD video.
Complications: All the access shafts are probably on private land, and their location is not well-known. The main tunnel is also over 300 feet below the surface, so the logistics of safely transporting humans to-and-from the area are not to be taken lightly.
Safety hazards: 300-foot descent, confined atmosphere of unknown quality.

FIRST TASK:
Find potential entry shafts to main tunnel by cross referencing google earth and the tunnel map. I'm in Houston and ready to make this happen, if it can be determined that there is some way to actually reach the tunnels and
1: tunnels not flooded, OR
2: we find a confined space diver crazy enough to drop down for a visit
WHY:
Just ask a drainer!

What is the issue, exactly? Nobody has the means to explore the main tunnel? I have the means--if it's at all possible, let's make it happen.

Here are the big issues besides the tunnels probably being flooded:
1) shafts likely on private land
2) shafts will likely require plasma cutter / thermal lance / thermite to access due to being welded shut and / or not designed for human entry
1 is not necessarily a huge issue.
2 is a bigger problem (due mostly to increased legal risk) but circumventing these type of obstacles--although unprecedented for UER--is certainly feasible.
Now, getting a diver down there after all this is something else, I would agree. But gaining access to a shaft? It can certainly be done.

My husband was a subcontractor out there before the project was killed. I asked him years ago if there was anything out there left to explore and he said there wasn't. If ya'll want me to ask him again, I can, but it will have to wait until after we're done fighting.

Please do ask him for any info or, especially, documents he can share. I'd be willing to pay for his / your time if he has anything scannable that's not already on the web.
Finally, "anything left to explore" is a matter of perspective. All I'm expecting to find is a big, possibly flooded tunnel deep underground.

I'm pretty sure only a very small length of tunnel was accomplished before it was scrapped. He won't have any documents on it, he retired from that company years ago. When we get done ignoring each other (yes, we are way too old for that ridiculous behavior) I will ask him again and get back to you.

Also, if anyone cares to check out sscl-319.pdf just added to the OP, you can read about how the geology in the area the tunnel is in prevents seepage from the water table. Thanks to the member who found that for me.

Thanks anyway. As far as I know, the portion of the main tunnel that was constructed is somewhere between 10 and 14 miles in length. That's not much compared to the planned length of the ring, but it's more than enough to get myself, and probably others here, excited.

I don't think 10 to 14 miles is anywhere near correct, more like 10 to 14 feet. But I'll ask him.
