Do all manufactures have something similar? Do these ever get out? I want.........all of em

I don't know about that but years ago I was with a girl friend who was doing academic research at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit. While she was back in the stacks I was checking out some of the concept sketches that hung on the wall in the front of the research library. I struck up a conversation with one of the librarians and it somehow turned what are radical departure Bill Mitchell's designs were from his mentor Harley Earl. The library and asked if I would be interested in seeing more work which of course I was. I was presented with 3 blueprint sized binders and told to enjoy. Copies naturally, but I could see the progression of General Motors cars including concept versions of some of the most famous vehicles design during Bill Mitchell's tenure at GM. I remember very clearly while examining one of the fantastic colored pencil sketches I touched it briefly and that's when I noticed a tiny bit of it rubbed off on my finger. These were no reproductions. I had the actual sketch pad of one of the most influential designers in the history of the automobile. And not just his, the two notebooks blow were simply labeled with a set of numbers and the words "Earl" and " Iacocca". And that was just the beginning even more binders begin to appear. I really don't know how much time passed, by the time she was done with the research she had come to do I was completely lost in the imaginations of some of the greatest designers who have ever lived. Staring in awe at where it all began. So that's my story, no models but a glimpse into automotive history I know I'll never forget.
The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave. |

that collection shows that Toyota used to build cars, not the appliances they do now. Today's 'Yota's have the personality of a refrigerator.

With the exception of the Supra and the MR2, I'd say pretty much all of their cars were appliances, but I think that's what they were always going for, and they succeeded at it in spades.

The first-gen 4Runner is the only Toyota whose honor I'll defend to the death. They have some neat cars besides, but like we've established, 99% are soulless appliances.
Won't you help me, Mr. Jesus, Won't you tell me, if you can When you see this world we live in, Do you still believe in man? |

My dad had an 82 Corolla when I was growing up. Thing was originally a CT car so it had some extremely bad rust issues. Rust bad enough that junk would fall out of the trunk if you took a corner to fast. We sold the thing for 80 bucks with 320k on it and it ran like a top. No mechanical problems whatsoever and didnt even smoke. Ive seen it around as recently as 2 years ago but someone did some body work on it and you can see the patches of primer where the rust was cut out. We sold the thing in 1998 and it still lives LOL. Wonder how many miles are on it now? You can tell its it by the different colored front seats still installed in it.

Sam, you'll be pleased to know today was the official launch day for the 2014 Corolla. I believe they'll make 30 or so today between the two shifts. I'm on holidays so I didn't get to see the disaster that ensued but next week I'll be in. They've been running two or three a shift for a while now. The Matrix is sticking around a bit longer too. No all wheel drive any more though.

Tercels had a soul.
hi i like cars |

Also, in response to the original post- holy crap that's cool. Volkswagen seems to like 1:87 scale (HO) for replicas of every single model of car they ever made.

That must be the thing that makes an extremely loud noise every time a surviving Tercel drives by.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |
